it's a good game but its not as much RPG as other Fallouts, but it's a spin-off so I don't care. The people who shittalk it the most havn't played it though, and only jumped on the bandwagon because "haha look everyone else hates on it"

Because it's just Fallout 4 re-released with even less substance.

the beta disappointed me because it put me in one of the most vibrant landscapes in fallout and made it feel absolutely dead
CosmicScientist wrote:Yeah but it's fallout 4 with exploitable-might-as-well-be-a-mod multiplayer code.

Why'd people start ragging on it more than the previous titles?
most people give bethesda a pass on the issues with their games since the story is usually good enough to overlook said issues. the whole 'make your own fun' aspect and gutting of any real story past droning holotapes more or less removed that pass.

exploits out the ass right down to raising your FPS to run faster (?!?!?!?!?)
zero substance, zero challenge gameplay
no story (or a really shitty, uninvolved one)
clear cashgrab tactics (all the way to including a mobile game-tier cash store)
severely below average quality for a fallout game, a series that people have moderately high expectations for
bizarre changes/design choices like randomized skill trees (which mean you have next to no control of how your character develops, which is the stark opposite of previous fallout games where you can play to whatever style you like) and the pvp system (you cant deal real damage to another player until they shoot back, but when they shoot back they do full damage, so they can just walk up and one shot you and you have 0 incentive to ever initiate a pvp fight).
the multiplayer, despite being a selling feature (it's fallout but multiplayer!) is useless, because PVP is fundamentally flawed and the game is so easy that you will never need co-op

I'm not paying ~£60 for an MMO, let alone one that doesn't even encrypt your connection to the server or have client-side cheat detection. That is the *height* of laziness to me.

It would have been a superior product if it wasn't multiplayer, and then it would just be plain old boring, instead of boring AND broken.

>I refuse to believe there is a quality below fallout's average quality.
Bad taste aside, I think you're still going to be disappointed. If you thought Skyrim had no story then this game may as well have negative. If you thought Skyrim was easy to the point of being boring (which yeah it was at times but at least fights had the potential to be fun, or hard if you didn't overlevel) then this game might actually cause brain death from the lack of engagement it provides.

My unpopular opinion is that Bethesda sold out with picking West Virginia because it frees them from designing any abandoned cities and haunting architecture. My favorite part of fallout 3 was walking through the ruins of D.C.; I even got a mod to remove the stupid invisible walls that blocked half the roads. I hated fallout new vegas because they chose a boring desert for their location as well.

Ya know the first 2 fallouts was mostly deserts, caves, and abandoned bunkers right

Actually that comes out to like $30, probably close to its actual price.

Also, Giant Bomb said it's so bad they are refusing to review it.

I wouldn't really mind a sandboxy fallout cause I'm into survival/exploration games but the forced multiplayer kills it for me, I have a policy of not wanting random strangers taking dumps in my sandbox

The silver lining is if bethesda hasn't collectively lost their mind this is probably mostly an experiment to include co-op for their next games

The fact that mods exist already, despite a lack of mod support, shows that their encryption clearly has some glaring holes you can park a bus in

That's not encryption though
You're thinking of encrypting game data, not encrypting connections to the server

My friend bought this for me as a thanks for helping him with something.

It's pretty boring AND buggy. Had to tweak the config file to unlock the FPS cap, turn off vsync, and fix the FOV. Starting weapons are boring as fuck, being all pipe weapons. Hit level 10 and am starting to get actual guns and armor that does shit, like invisibility. Everything else is literally the same as Fallout 4 without mods, with no NPC's and a story I don't even bother reading anymore. Oh, and there's so little enemy variation it's horrendous. The entire game is fighting ghouls, super mutants, and some wild animals. Not even any bandits.

Multiplayer is redundant. Everyone just runs around doing their own thing. The random events around the map that get announced to everyone, like in that old MMO RIFT, are kinda neat for the chaos but not much more.

Caps take fucking forever to get. Rare cap stashes give around 30 caps. Rest of the time you're getting a couple caps from selling weapons you pick up. This sucks as vendors charge over 50 caps for beginner gear, and fast travel costs caps. If I don't wanna run across the map I gotta pay 1/5 of my caps to get somewhere.

The absolute best part would be the mobile bases. It works in that you can deploy a base computer, then build whatever you want. A basic camp, a building, whatever. Then if you leave and go somewhere else you can redeploy it, so long as no one else' is deployed around you, and there's space. Some high level guy had made an actual mansion with multiple seperate buildings, fancy lighting, turrets. Looked like a village. He disconnected and it went with him before I remembered to take a pic.

Sadly, like with caps, building materials take a ton of fucking time to get.

4/10, if Bethesda gave a fuck it could reach a 7.

I feel like you don't know the difference between encrypting connections, and trusting the client in network replication. If you're going to shit on a game for it's technical problems atleast make sure you know what those technical problems are (and what they mean).

Kind of expected. Considering Bethseda's track record for their games at launch is generally a very buggy vanilla experience. When you have modders making unofficial patches such as this. It becomes apparent that Bethseda's greatest strength is also a weakness, which is the mod ability of their games. It being multiplayer locks it into a place where modding is very limited. Content and fixes are at the mercy of Bethseda who can be really hit or miss on things.

Personally I have enjoyed my time in game

I've ran into few real bugs, and those I ran into were quickly fixed with a relog
Material gathering is actually piss easy, claim a workshop for even half and hour and you'll have too many resources with stuff like ballistic fiber being the only thing you struggle with

debatable, movement speed is clientside which means the movement (and potentially the entire character) is not handled serverside which means you can make cheatmods
