i just hope it's good and not super fucking cringy like the World of Darkness books have become

i really hope during character creation the narrator doesn't turn to face the screen and tell me if i'm a white person who votes republican to stop playing their game and get a refund and then donate it to The Society of Cutting off Children's Dicks and Filling them Up With Chinese Horsepiss

Paradox has been producing lower and lower quality for years now
If the trend continues, this will be at best okay, and at worst Bioware style Dragon age 2 levels of bad

Hope for the best, but prepare for the worst. Then at worst your expectations are met and at best you get to enjoy something decent

Are they producing low quality games? The last games they produced and released were HoI4 and Stellaris, which were pretty ok. Imperator is not out yet. They are publishing more games, like Battletech which was pretty ok too. Bloodlines 2 won't be developed by Paradox either I think, only published. The developer is literally who though. I had to look up Hardsuit Games, and they made Blacklight and Chivalry. Chivalry is good, but the apparent lack of single player making experience seems worrying.

Even if paradox made an amazing game I still think people would be pissed off, there are too many expectations with this game and at best i'd expect to see "Lives up to the first bloodlines" because people are fucking idiots with cult classic games and they worship them like the perfect game given to us by a higher power

Because the expectation (further evidenced by the already announced Season Pass DLC setup) is that they'll go the same route they've gone with most of their games and drip feed DLC for five years until you've paid 500 bucks for the game ala EU4 or HoI.

"Season Pass"ification apart, I'm already concerned that the game has barely been announced and the narrative designer is already giving interviews about how great it was to have the ability to use the game's story to soapbox about politics though. I'm getting deja vu.

Someone was telling me that apparently the character creator has two stages.
You pick your human character looks and then later on you pick your vampire looks, complete with gender bending.

Damn.

This just reminds me I played the original Bloodlines as boring fuck normie Toredors instead of special Malkavians.

We've so far been told at the very least that all characters are "thin-bloods" meaning they're super late generation vampires with extremely weak forms of the Curse. The only way for a thin-blood to become a full vampire is to diablerize (drain all of the blood from) another vampire (obviously frowned upon universally by vampire-kind. I have a feeling that the story is going to entirely gloss over that last part and have the NPCs treat you like one of the gang without a second thought about how you got to where you are.

I remember playing the first game knowing absolutely nothing about the game or the lore at all and just so happened to roll Malkavian. Oh boy, was that a fucking ride.

I had a theory about the first one. You're 8th gen im the first game. You have way too many blood points for a thinblood.

Entirely possible. Its very obvious that the player isn't a thin blood in the first game because 1) you manifest kindred features immediately after embrace 2) you don't have to diablerize anyone to gain those features.

I'm not seeing the outrage other than ResetEra morons acting surprised that mental illness is represented with some nuance in the setting.

Malks were pretty well handled in the first game. They were "demented" but it was handled well within the setting context of being an entire kindred bloodline of perpetually interconnected telepaths with glimpses of possible future events. You'd be pretty weird if you had the Internet literally shouting into your skull at all times too.

I'm still not sure if you're doing a freudian slip and misspelling Malkavians or taking the piss out of me, although I'm sure it's the latter.

Obviously I found the Malkavians craziness to be interesting to the point that when I had to arse grab a character name for a UO shard around the time I played VtMB I chose a slightly corrupted name based off theirs.

I never played Malkevins, only superior clans like Ventrue, Toreador and Nosferatu, so my only reference to Malkevins dementia were always the pictures with meme dialogue options and the hallucinations.

The "meme dialogue" is a product of what I mentioned. They're constantly bombarded with a ton of information that they don't personally possess but which may or not be true/useful/relevant to their circumstances. Its the reason your malkavian characters in BL1 could recognize certain NPCs before being introduced to them or know things about the plot that only really make sense when the player realizes later that you were speaking in prophetic riddles.

What I'm saying is if I was more social-minded individual, and knew jack shit of wod lore, I would find such portrayal of mental illness insensitive. And now Paradox says they gonna be sensitive about it, so what does it mean? It implies it will be different from the original.

They'll probably just water them down to being weird precog/telepaths or something.
