I don't know how I feel about hyping games up before you even get to play them, remember on erro forums where starbound was hyped as the best game ever and everyone was excited to play it, and then 3 days later everyone was like "this fucking sucks" and never mentioned it again?

What does one do in No Mang's Sky? Is it just a flying/walking around simulator because that's all I've been seeing (aside from some small bit o' combat, but every game has that!).

you know what other space exploration game that everyone said looked fucking great turned out to be like? starbound . Oh yeah neither does anybody else because it fucking was a terrible game. I could be biting my own words here down the line, and this game may turn out half decent. but until it's out I'm not going to hype all over it.

Honestly I have to agree with you that they aren't like chucklefuck games in the least. But I guess I'm the sort of person that doesn't really buy as soon as it's released/pre-order games. Normally I'll wait a few weeks after it's released before I buy something.

Yeah after two fucking floods.

STILL NO ANSWER TO "WHAT THE HELL IS THIS GAME GOING TO BE?"

Is it going to be like Eve? is it going to try and take a shot at star Citizen and be a "first person Space sim?"
Is there a reason to go out and explore?
Why should any one care if this game is going to be LOL RANDUM GENERATIED PLANETS?
What do i do after I land on a planet?
Is there combat?
Is this going to be Going home, The spess trip?

What is the point to this fucking game?

Why should i be hyped over tech demos?

Youngins not knowing what is going on... Its a space sim.

Generally that means you explore, trade, and fight while upgrading your ship for combat capacity, economic ability, and in some games exploration ability. MMOs emulate this in a very hollow way where you do the content for the sake of unlocking new content to do in an endless grind, where as space sims, at least good ones, are more about being a legitimate sandbox.

Videos have shown that there is some form of economy and resource gathering, and background info tells us that ships will be upgradable and tradable on stations to be stronger and better at fighting.

A lot of what the devs have told us about the game worries me, like them talking about making playing with friends deliberately hard as a feature rather than a detrement, but future updates such as the fact that there will likely be player hubs that will simply force players to treck a bit have calmed my fears. The lack of detail on what to do is not something I am worried about, it is common to the genre. You need to self motivate somehow in these games. They are not generally about linear naratives or rigid goals and benchmarks. You have to channel your own desires into goals, like "I want this badass spaceship" in Eve or "I want to create a super efficient automated shipping empire" in X3.

it is sort of like being a non-antag in SS13 actually. You 'win' by doing cool entertaining stuff in the context of the system the game creates. While antags can win rounds and non-antags can survive, survival is pretty darn easy if unfufilling, and most players self select for jobs that they artificially overascribe meaning and worth too. Security doesnt 'win' by catching normal criminals and medical doesn't 'win' by reviving people buy players who enjoy such activities feel like they do. Goals in games generally are either extremely artifical, narative based, self selected, or are based on the ideal of competition. Think WoW, any traditional JRPG, Minecraft, or DOTA for each example. Though there is bleed over. For example most sandbox games encourage a sort of self-competition, where as hollow artifical goals are often presented as narative based or based around "getting better" like competitive goals are.

Only issue is that if you want to play with friends it will be incredibly hard due to how large the map is, hopefully they add something where you can go around with pals.

There is going to be "A traditional co-op component" as well as the ability to go to what they intend to be player trade hubs to meet up.

Theory is on some weird versus AI flight missions, but yes, there is going to be multiplayer co-op of some sort programmed in beyond just randomly meeting in spess.

“There is this thing, which I’m not going to talk about now,” Murray teased, “that is a plan for multiplayer and for people to have a more traditional multiplayer experience within the game, and that’s something that we’ll deal with down the line that is exciting but that is not what’s core to the game right now.”
You hear that and you think "Co-op confirmed"? Seriously?

Sounds more to me like lip service, like "yeah we've thought about it wouldn't it be neat if something like that existed" and then they don't actually do any work on it or give a shit because it's obviously not part of the vision the developers had in mind.

There is a thing they have a plan for. It's not core to the game right now. They'll "deal with it down the line".

Translation: Maybe in some DLC.

Uhhhhhhhh wasn't this originally just some kind of PS-ware thing?

Did hype alone inflate the price up to full-retail-product levels?

Yeah you better believe this game is going to have space pirates in it.

A standard retail game.

Not a "make up your own immersive story as you go" type game that was originally produced by a team of three people to be a PSN $20-ish game.
The only reason this costs $60 is because they got everyone so excited for it and know that people will probably pay it.

It's the same thing that happened with Splatoon, which was also originally supposed to be a $20 download WiiWare title but hype convinced them to release it as a disc-game for $50.
>2gb of game meme

At least the game has 65daysofstatic contributing to the soundtrack. I can get behind that.
