there's a standalone version now that costs like 1 buck and scraps the whole freemium concept and has dedicated servers with adjustable xp/action timer rates
that was pretty nice, i played on a x3 server for a while with some friends

Wurm online is dead as fuck, it barely pulls 350 players during peak times on the weekend.
