The map scale is larger. You move your commander square by square instead province to province. Every faction (or class as it's called) has its own gimmick mechanic or currency. There's much less magic, but each faction has its own rituals that are usually tied with mechanic/currency.

Sure I guess. One could argue CoE is better as a singleplayer game. You should probably get a pirate copy and try it first.
