I give it a 7/10.

Not a bad stealth game but not really worthy of the MGS name. Too much cut content, not enough story. Repetitive missions.

Positives
-Deepish Weapon/Item Development
-Lots of guns to shoot people with
-The few story related cassette tapes you get are very interesting
-Licensed music from the early 1980's, not very much, however.
-Fultoning things is hot shit, not much to fulton, though.

Negatives
-Empty, desolate world with very little to actually do.
-awful horse controls
-Impotent Buddies
-Barely any cutscenes past the first hour
-Way too much running going from A to B
-trash horse controls
-Mother Base is meagre at best, and is uninteresting to walk around, long distances between the platforms for what seems no reason at all.
-Uninteresting locations to infiltrate
-garbage horse controls
-feels unfinished
-repeated use of locations for missions
-lack of cutscenes, talking
actual spoiler, beat the game before opening unless you wanna get spoiled
Spoiler:
and the ending was fucking stupid and made the entire game pointless
6.5/10

D-Dog is probably the most useful support partner i've had in any video game, mainly for the fact that you don't have to worry about/protect him since guards apparently don't give a fuck about some random wolf running around inside their high security base.

Walker's alright if you plan on a murderboner fiesta.

That's one way to go with him, the CQC arm he gets makes me feel like I'm some mad scientist's monsters unleashed on some unsuspecting innocents. Slamming and throwing fools left and right, zipping around slamming into others. Stun errbody that way. It's not subtle or stealthy, but it's a non-lethal way to D-Walk on fools.

Got another configuration of DW that's for blowing up vehicles, there's an arm upgrade I want that allows it to melee vehicles to death.

I haven't really tested how "stealthy" d-walker is. He's so noisy with the footsteps and large that I can't imagine the sleepy darts and CQC is actually that useful for anything sneaky. Then again snake's arm when he crawls is just CLANK CLANK CLANK and nobody seems to notice so whatever.

Flamethrower is goddamn great though, still can't use it as much as i'd like because im saving fuel resources up to finish up my platform construction.

It had great gameplay but I was pretty let down by the story. Going by the trailers I just expected so much more, especially for the series' finale.
I didn't have as big a problem with the mission locations but I think I would've preferred it if they hadn't taken the open world approach.
A lot of the main missions felt pointless. Very few of them felt like I was doing anything except taking some guy out or extracting some guy because Miller told me to. The ones that did advance the plot were fantastic, though. Missions 6, 11, 12, 27-31, and 43 were all awesome and the cutscenes we did get were incredible. I just wish the game had been 15-25 long, story driven missions like this instead of the 35 pointless filler shit and 5 missions where you're actually advancing the plot.

I have mixed feelings about the ending. I think I would like it a lot more if the game actually felt like it was finished, but as it was it gave very little closure and felt like a big fuck you.

I want to like MGSV so much because I was so excited over it I watched every trailer daily, followed its news and development religiously, and ranted and raved for months about it pre-release. I got 70 hours out of it and I don't think I'm really done yet. I want to say I enjoyed it and I did, but I just feel a little let down. I expected so much more than what I got.

Whatever, it was fun. I had fun. I just wish the series had gotten a more deserving ending.

I've been having fun, but I've also been feeling like I'm not getting any cool swag to use. I'm still using the default suppressed AR and stun pistol about 99% of the time, the only thing is since getting customizable guns I've slapped a sniper scope on my rifle, and occasionally I take a rocket launcher or sniper rifle, both tranqs and lethal.

I feel like it's been dragging. Also a bit annoyed that I super sneak moded this one mission, and then I ended up forced to go loud at the end when I had to do a mass escort at the end.

Fuckin' FOBs when.

Though, I've also been having lots of fun stealing tanks and APCs. Grabbing those motherfuckers while assholes are still in them is amazingly hilarious.

Yeah that's basically what you're stuck with if you want to do basic sneaky stuff. The rest is mostly fun things to go loud with. Getting that gunsmith who can customize your stuff helps since you can slap more tacticool stuff on your limited stun gear but tranq is so strong that theres not much else to do with it other than the sniper and base pistol.

Rubber bullets are nice but the stun doesn't last very long. Can always kick them and hold em down to the ground if you want them out longer but ehhh.

If you're going sneaky with the Tranq pistol then you're just doing it wrong.

Try doing a sneak run without taking out guards, much more tense. Tranqing everyone is just piss easy.

On that note, I know someone who missed DD because he's a pleb, is there a way to get him later in the game?

He's my favorite buddy just because of his ridiculous spotting range, it makes pretending to be sneaky even easier than it already is. I think I actually prefer D-Horse to D-Walker, though - Walker's fuckin' vroom mode is even weirder to control than the horse, and I can't gallop around shooting a rocket launcher over my shoulder when I'm riding Walker.

The Legacy collection for PS3 is available on amazon for like $30-40 on and has every canon game in the series included up to MGS4.

Oh wow

I thought D-dog was almost completely ignored by enemies

Turns out
He isn't

He'll only alert them literally in front of their faces, though.

I found this out after I unlocked the knifing upgrade for him and was using him to clear an outpost for shits and giggles.
He got gunned down and it was about 10k GMP in fines for it.

Yeah like how guards start combating your usual tactics by changing their equipment or laying mines in your previous sneaking paths, if you have d-dog kill enough people the guards start talking about a "demon dog" and they'll start shooting instead of telling him to go away.

I've noticed that there are decoys fucking everywhere now.

Of course, since I switched from Quiet back to D-dog after maxing her bond level, the decoys don't really work because D-dog doesn't mark them
Also, the binoculars don't analyze them anyway

I'm never consistent with the way I tackle outposts, though, so I don't think they've really adapted

Oh, except for the fact that fucking everyone wears a helmet now after my stint of riot SMG headshotting everything, even constantly doing the anti-helmet combat team deployments

All these assholes are wearing helmets and body armor, yeah. I'd say that it makes it hard to stun them, but it honestly doesn't, I just tranq them in the legs now. Hopefully they don't learn how to make armored jeans, or I'll have to resort to just blowing them away with actual bullets and/or bodyslams, I guess.

I barely use my gadgets, though, so I haven't really noticed them doing anything special. NVG guys are pretty frequent though, and they're kinda obnoxious. USUALLY their preparations don't end up getting them anything except shot in the face, though.

I see Octopus sometimes, along with the random Butterfly (Quiet is so busted holy shit) or Fox/Foxhound when I actually do things right.

But randomly I'll complete a mission without shooting anyone at all and I still get Doberman.
Which is, if I understand correctly, awarded for killing a ton of people with Assault Rifles.

I've used it twice.

Both times before everyone started walking around in full armor.

I was never enthused with the idea of it because it wasn't suppressed, but armored guys are enough of a pain that if it downs them quick enough I'd be willing to use it more often.

Same reason I'm not a fan of the NL AR, it's not suppressed.

Decent gameplay, godawful story.

Kojipro sets aside the Metal Gear continuity to make a whole game about their new American girlfriend.
Coming full circle? Setting the stage for Metal Gear? Nah fuck that, have you seen this girl's tits?

MGS3 had cool gimmicky boss fights with weird strategies you could use.
MGS4 had cool gimmicky boss fights you just had to shoot your way through.
MGS5 throws a bunch of tanks and really tough generic soldiermen at you. Every boss fight is: "Hope you invested some time researching a good launcher" type gates.

I hate to say it but this is maybe the worst one of the whole franchise as a total package. I'm disappointed but at least it's not a fucking awful game. It's okay. It has a ton of content to play. It will eventually have some kind of multiplayer MGO-type facet that should be good.
Spoiler:
The only boss battle in the entire game that is a real MGS style boss battle is the fight with the burning man at The Devil's House. You have to figure out that you need to spray him with water from the tanks or knock him into the pool to win. Every other fight is "Don't get hit/hit it until it dies" type slog shit.

It's an odd game. Some missions are just incredible with their atmosphere or story it's just that there's a bunch of stuff in between those few really great MGS stories. The filler missions aren't bad for me because I've found the gameplay incredibly entertaining and varied but it's disconnected from the really intense plot some of the missions seem to want to tell.

Somewhere between all the child escort missions my enthusiasm died and it became a grind to just finish the damn game.

It opens with a lot of potential but it squanders most of it or just doesn't capitalize on the rest of it in the third act. Everything post Skullface seems like bonus post-credits bullshit, but then you realize that this is the part of the game that was supposed to be the most important.

Not the crazy villain and his giant robot and his doosmday plot. That's not the important part of the story.

Quiet is. This obnoxious not-even-a-relationship not-even-a-love-interest thing.

And then after that we get the Shamamalama twist that just makes everything seem that much more stupid and pointless.
