Fun stuff with console mods, there's been rampant mod theft, a few modders are toying with the idea of fucking console players up in return by making their mods bloat saves, drain stats and shit if it's detected on a console, other modders have taken their mods down in protest

The thing is that the entire modding community was basically hijacked by Bethesda.

They aren't profiting from the sale of individual mods, no, but they are listing this wealth of user created content as a selling point and pushing units because of it.
There is sales revenue coming in in some quantity, however slight it may be at your worst estimation, as a direct result of them being able to plug user created content into the game.

Putting in a system that punishes users for downloading their content may not be very fair, as I imagine the typical console player is so incredibly ignorant to that process of what actually belongs to who and how limited a window into that creation process they're given through the limited UI...we can't really expect them to know what is actually made by whom. The process for policing that is handled by volunteer curators on the PC. I don't personally investigate every thing on the nexus to make sure it was uploaded by the real author...I assume someone already checked that if its available for download in such a high-traffic site.

Even more so when Bethesda is offering this official widget in their official game to funnel content in. I would assume that everything there is legit and above board.

Somewhat related but mods shouldn't really be something to be "stolen" anyway. There shouldn't be any monetary rewards for making these things, complaining that someone else is getting the steam gift cards or paypal monies you deserve for making mods is kinda shitty anyway. Not to say there isn't real work involved in creating mods, there definitely is, but if you're expecting compensation for it you should fuck right off. Go make your own damn game or get a job at Bethsoft.

We've entered into this weird marketplace where people are pseudo-bootleggers and pirates creating "free" content for things, but then expecting handouts on Patreon, Paypal, etc.
I'm sure your creation is great and you poured your heart into it but unless Bethesda (or whoever owns the license your infringing on) has signed off on it you really shouldn't be getting any money for your derivative work.
