Playing in China would not be AMERICAN! enough for Fallout.

Although, as Eurofag, I'd really want to see what happened to, say, the British. Keep Calm and Ghoul On?

New Vegas wasn't that urban. Not compared to 3.
Original Fallout was mostly wasteland, too. FO2 seems to have been the same, but I didn't play it that far.

There was some commentary by one of the creators that the game they "wanted to make one day" was a squad sim set in Europe gathering scrap and shit.

If you want to survive in a pure desert environment you want a Mad Max game.

The 1950's Americana is integral to Fallout. If they move setting somewhere else they lose out on the most identifying features of their game. When they abandon that to focus on other possible avenues to take Fallout we get games like the Brotherhood of Steel gauntlet clone.

Image

Without the American setting it's just a generic post-apocalyptic game.

eg. A Fallout game set in the Ukraine is just STALKER with some changes.
Fallout New Vegas without the Americana is just Mad Max without cars.

That's Ronto. It was briefly referenced in The Pitt DLC, Ronto is short for Toronto.

Of course it's set in America, because you gotta pander to that lowest common denominator. Give us a non-American setting for a change, the series could desperately use a culture shock in stead of the same old same old. Instead we'll probably get Fallout with the usual "ethnic groups" like Chinese, Russians, etc all roaming the wasteland.

One of the things I loved most about Mad Max was having it set in Australia with the road-gang culture.

No it doesn't you communist. If you want a series of games about Russians and shit go play stalker.

Fallout 3 had several cases where you interacted with Chinese stuff anyway.

Just go play STALKER if you want to not play Fallout but still want a post-apoc game

Also literally like only two Fallout games is urban for the majority of it. The only big urban area in the first game's the Hub, most of 2's cities because they're rebuilding, a very large chunk of 3 is ruined city and ruined city outskirts, and most of Vegas is desert

I understand what you guys mean but like

1) Like I said (and others have commented) the retro americana shtick is core to what makes Fallout recognizable as Fallout. Asking for a change like that is like asking when they're going to make an Elder Scrolls game set in like...Greyhawk. Post-WW2 America and its fears and trappings and art deco shit, the communist scare, the fashion...you need it to make Fallout. The sudden shift and crazy propaganda that actually happened as the democracy gave way to fear and blind patriotism that occurred in real-life America during the 50's and early 60's...no other country went through such a crazy and drastic change. If you set the game in Russia or Britain there just isn't as much fertile earth to till over and parody and exaggerate as there is with the America of the 1950's that they employ.

It's not "pandering" just because AMERICA #1 GAME FOR AMERICANS WOO. If anything the representation here is really fucking shameful for Americans because it's only half joking. What new thing could they introduce by setting the game somewhere else? Did Russia have a "blue scare"? Was Russia not already super patriotic? Britains issues with "big brother" didn't start until much much later, they were too busy focusing on reconstruction efforts to take a huge political dump.

Fallout is a game about the stresses and fears of the cold war during the 50's and 60's, it's not just a bunch of guys running around a radioactive desert shooting mutants. Saying you want to play a fallout game set somewhere that wasn't involved in the cold war is just retarded. You're missing the point.

2) Most of the rest of the world is just radioactive craters as far as we know. The franchise focuses on patches of the United States because we're lead to believe that's all that is left. Some places are outright confirmed as obliterated (like China, Canada, New York...). To suddenly write in "Oh the UK was fine this entire time!" jumps the shark.

I think its somewhat implied that America got stuck in this 50's/60''s appearance rut, so the rest of the world might have a more modern looking appearance, at least pre-war.

I think in any traditional nuclear war scenario that many southern hemisphere areas would be spared from nuclear attacks, however in Fallout its stated that most of the world is covered in nuclear winter so even area's that were not hit by nuclear weapons (South East Asia, Africa and South America) would still have big problems.

If there are any original nation states still active in the post-war period they would most likely reside in the souther hemisphere of the world.

E: Its hard to ascertain excatly how the rest of the world is going however as the few, rare, appearances of Earth show heavy clouds hiding the planet. Thought its shown that in Europe that the situation is far worse than the United States, with people from Europe often moving to the United States.

I also recall that China was extremely devastated from the nuclear exchange, not to mention during Fallout 3 there's a opportunity to 'accidently' launch another nuclear weapon at China.

I dont think he was implying that, merely suggesting that they try fallout 2. I strongly support this, if you do download it get the fallout 2 restoration project as well. It fixed a bunch of unfinshed content as well as adding cool new graphical stuff.

One of the things i miss most from the old fallout games is the world map travel system. While traveling on the world map it would pull random encounters. They could be something boring like molerats or other enemies, but sometimes you would get cool easter egg encounters with crazy loot and stuff.

I liked everything about the trailer (Especially the abundance of BoS/Enclave tech) except for the fact the lone wanderer actually spoke.
need me a silent protagonist in an open world game like ES and (Bethesda)Fallout.
