Avernum 2: Crystal Souls

Post by firecage » #145612

So, any of you guys played this glorious RPG yet? Or atleast played any game in the Avernum series. Really fun when it is plot/storyline heavy, and text heavy. Though I should probably sum up the Avernum world for you, and the start of Avernum 2. Note though, it is an Isometric game.

General Summary:

Most of the surface world is ruled by The Empire. It has no other name, for it is merely The Empire, rulers of the surface. A few decades prior to the first game, they discovered a massive underground network of caves, some areas being extremely massive caverns. So they formed an idea. They will banish everyone they dislike to the underworld. Anyone who commits a crime(atleast officially), anyone who questions them, anyone who rises up against them, and merely anyone they have a dislike for. These plans being headed by the Emperor himself and his council. Thus they constructed a powerful portal to banish all those people to the underworld. But one thing they did not expect, was for the people there to prosper and build their own kingdom and be independent.

Summary of the start of Avernum 2:

War has broken out between The Empire, and the Kingdom of Avernum. This is the Empire striking back for their Emperor being assassinated by Avernites. The Empire keeps sending massive waves of troops into the underworld, which do severely outnumber the Avernite army. Yet the Avernites holds strong, not giving in, for they know the caves better, are used to the dim light, and know how to survive, yet the forces the Empire are actually sending, compared to their army on the surface, are small, because they are unable to send massive amounts in at once, they have to teleport them in bit by bit.

The Avernites are busy winning, the Empire being pushed back, bit by bit. But then something unexpected happens. Massive magical barriers springing up from nowhere, seperating entire caves and caverns from eachother, dividing the forces and cities of Avernum. The Avernites suspects the Empire of doing this, as the Empire begins to gain ground, taking cave after cave, but many suspect a third party being at work...

Aren't these made by Spiderweb Software?

I used to play the fuck out of Exile with my friends back in middle/high school.
