Like Artemis and some of the other games of this ilk, Pulsar is a game where up to five players can board a spaceship and roam around the universe in search of adventure.

What sets Pulsar apart from other games in this new sub-genre is that you're actually a person onboard a ship instead of just being glued to a single console all the time. You can get up and wander around, interact with different systems, and even leave the ship to do EVA or away-team style missions on planetoids.

Currently in Early Access. Probably going to end up streaming my first forays into gameplay this Friday if you're curious, or if you already own it/want to buy it and tag along.

It also seems like you have a lot more to do. Other games like this have strictly been combat games but Pulsar includes more exploration, communicating with NPC's, trade, etc. You're also able to save your progress (?) or something on a voyage so it's not just mission-to-mission gameplay.

It's kinda pricey for early access, yeah, but enough people I know already owned it so I went for it.

This game was pretty fuckin' rad. Need more goddamn crew members.

To summarize the evening:

I joined a ship with some random kids to learn the basics while people were also downloading or getting into the game.
We got into combat, I was the engineer, and after a few failed attempts to eject the warp core and scuttle the ship (it doesn't work like that, apparently) we exploded anyway due to incompetence on the part of the rest of the crew. The only feedback the captain had for me was that he didn't like me flicking the lights on and off rapidly inside the ship.
K-64, shadow, and myself crewed a new ship and blew ourselves up a few times struggling to figure out how three people were supposed to do all this shit
We eventually settled on our roles and ran around the galaxy a bit, plundering a deserted outpost on a frozen planet, taking over a repair station, killing a bunch of robots, recovering some medical supplies, then getting killed again by a badass space ship.

9/10 experience would definitely play again with people as soon as possible

I still have our save game where we've made some progress.

Last time we played the roles on the ship were:
k-64: Weapons Specialist
Palpatine: Science Officer
An0n3: Captain (pulling double-duty as pilot)

With an AI for Engineer. So we could really use an Engineer if everyone shows up again, but also a dedicated pilot aint bad.

I'm the only person I play this game with that is in MURRICA.

If you're buddy buddy with K-64 and Upgradecap they both play. I think PAS is getting it. Colonic has it.

Shadow is maybe American too? I think when we were talking about times at one point he also mentioned things vaguely EST-based.

I was on Weapons, K64 was our engineer, and Canopy was the Captain pulling double duty as the pilot (the the PiBot was basically just another gunner and the SciBot was chained to his console running Norton)

We had an intrepid-class ship totally pimped out. Speed run Tokyo drift murder machine. All the anime. All the children.

I don't think it would take much asking to get K-64 to let you swing the space wrench.
His job title says "Engineer" but his performance review says "Constantly runs into the teleporter during fights to sabotage the enemy ship and die proudly when he is trapped aboard while it explodes".

The Voyages of the ISS Vape-orizer are underway.

We crewed good. We did a surprising amount of damage to a lot of different dudes.
Then we decided to go toe-to-toe with a boss and they immediately just nuked us GG no re.

We'll continue to trawl the galaxy for goodies, upgrades, and cash money then try again soon.
