Someone mentioned maybe standardizing our loadouts so that we can share gear in the field (read: scavenge more mags off of dead operatives).

Anyone interested in this?

I think the simple solution is to all use the M4 platform, but that's kinda boring and there are better options.

Possible choices include:
M4 Platform (ho-ah!)
AK Platform (cheeky that breeky)
XM8 (+2 movement speed in water)
CZ 805 (glorious czechnology)
AUG (bullpup is best pup)
TAR (goy blaster)
Mk16 (future gun nobody cared to use)
Mk17 (bigger future gun nobody cared to use)

My obviously biased vote is towards the fishgun, isnt 30rd STANAG good for a couple other rifles? I am not terribly picky anyways though. AUG is always nice but i would rather have a less zoomed scope for medium range firefights

They are compatible with a few different weapon systems, yeah.
I believe the AUG, M4, Mk16, CZ 805 A1, and TAR can all share mags(?). They're all 5.56mm NATO.
Likewise the AK family comes in two separate flavors (big and small) that can share mags within their grouping
The Mk17 and CZ-805-B2 might be able to share mags as well (they're 7.62mm NATO).


My vote is for the Mk17. It has a ton of different configurations and the cartridge is large enough to shit all over the body armor most OPFOR are likely to be wearing. It's a bit on the heavy side overall though.

Out of those choices, I'd say the CZ 805 probably. Although I've been doing rather well with the KH2002. Since it's a kebab gun, resupplying in the field isn't as much an issue either.

It was all a ruse.

The FN FAL was always the weapon of choice.


Hog logistics had a meeting and we decided that anything that uses 30 round STANAG is fair game.

So you can still snowflake and flaunt your obscure hipster rifle but just make sure it uses mags the rest of us can scavenge off your inevitable corpse.

The thing is we still need some specialisation, as having an MG can be really useful in cityscapes for suppressing fire, and they're just too heavy to carry anything else other than extra ammo.

Its also REALLY useful if at least 1 of the ground squads have a 117 radio to talk to any vehicles who might be sitting outside the limit of the 148/152, though I admit thats only happened like once (when we attacked the city).

A sniper/DMR is pretty useful when it comes to night missions for spotting targets too, imho.

For those weapons, I don't think it's quite as important, considering we've currently only got the numbers to field one at a time at most. On that note though, Anon really should be using AI squads to help bolster our numbers for attacking the more dug-in places. Having a few dozen meatshields makes all the difference, even if they are dumb as bricks.

Well, one of my marksman loadouts does use the STANAG mags as well, but that's the one that's the squad marksman rather than the lone wolf snowflakey one, if that makes any sense

Blegh. 5.56mm is terrible as a DMR round. It's fast but it arcs like a motherfucker and splatters off kebab body armor at 400m+. It's also a lighter round that gets deflected further by wind.

7.62mm holds up better at intermediate ranges (400-600) and delivers a lot more energy to the target. If you're looking for something that can hold its own at range but not be too cumbersome for close in work that's prettymuch exactly what 7.62mm NATO was designed to do. You want a "battle rifle".

Alternatively you could pack a regular 5.56mm rifle and kit out something like a .454 casull Raging Bull for use at long range. It's something that probably shouldn't work, but does because >video games.

Is there a way to force civvies out of their vehicles other than apply bullet to face? I really needed this dude's truck last night but i ended up having to ventilate him for it. I felt kinda bad, he ended up being one of like 7 people i killed all night. Truck was tight though, will it still be at the FoB when the mission is reloaded?

I still need to learn how to properly autorotate when the anti-torque is shot to hell in that thing. If it's just the main rotor that's inoperable, I can autorotate 9 times out of 10, but when both are fucked, then all bets are off.

We might be able to do that the next session, considering we now have some proper artillery, plus resources to build some tanks and/or CAS. Throw a few AI squads in there and we should be able to either blitzkrieg the place, or win through sheer attrition.

Also god damn the DLC system in this game is shit. Gating a whole class of rifles and vehicles each behind a fucking 18 dollar DLC is pretty shit. Bought the marksman pack, tried my hand at running my own liberation game just to practice and I cant set up a goddamn FOB because i cant fly the chopper.

Using a 360 wired controller to fly is surprisingly good. The way it navigates the UI is a little wonky (the d-pad inputs are kinda mysterious and I"m worried I may accidentally dive out of the helo if I try to use them) but the sticks and throttle are great.

Got shot down while doing some test flying/recon and ended up getting into this mess:

I've tried a lot of intermediate rifles and I think this one is by far the best.

It's a pretty rad gun. The full-auto and increased mag does make it better for the closer stuff than the Noreen.

IMO the only time you ever want to rock and roll full-auto is when you're providing covering fire or room-clearing.

7.62mm covering fire sucks unless you've wheeze'd one of fuck-huge MG's to the front. The individual mags are too tiny at 20 rounds a pop and you can never carry enough 7.62mm around that you can afford to throw a whole mag or two of it away just making people sit still.

Room clearing sucks shit with any fullsize rifle. The barrel gets caught up on doorways and it's slow to swing around.

To their credit some of the 7.62mm platforms can be pretty controllable under full-auto. The Mk17 and 556 don't jump as much as the FN FAL does or the EBR (holy shit why is that even select fire fuck that trigger group). Still though they're flying all over the place compared to full-sized 5.56mm rifles like the M16, Mk16, or L85A1. Even an M4 with enough shit bolted on to it to give it some weight and a grippod is better.

With the 556 I don't provide covering fire; if I can see someone I just range in and shoot them. I also don't clear rooms with it either, that's what the ol' FREEDOM TRAIN .50 AMERICAN ENTHUSIASM is for.

Doubleposting for COVERT OPS.

Last night after everyone took off me and PAS geared up in tacticool black and parachuted into an occupied city with silenced firearms to wreck some havoc. Our original plan was to use our demolition charge on a church for lulz, but an APC kinda ruined our plans by being in the way. PAS got killed trying to put the charge on it instead. I managed to sneak around a shoot a few people before I too was killed. We didn't accomplish much but damn if it wasnt a ton of fun. Also PAS accidentally killed a bunch of surrendering kebabs who had besieged our base. I was going up to capture them when all of a sudden shells rain down and they all explode. I guess that is the Wild Hog way

Artillery shells take a looooooong time to travel, but I have to say with the aid of a drone that round was pin-point accurate (on the surrendered kebobs)

There was a lot of friendly fire that day... I think I might have blown you up with the Apache's cannon as well...

That Apache run was pretty fun. Specially when we took heavy fire from a plane, lost the anti-torque rota. Anon3 desperately trying to wrestle with the controls whilst I tried to gun the shit out of the plane.

Hah yeah I forgot about that. I was tactically operating around athira after my solo insertion, racked up a decent kill count too. I run to the upstairs of an empty house to bandage up and reload, only to randomly explode and die

Since we've gotten a few ops under our belts again and seem to have a good team dynamic going we could probably discuss preferred roles and all that. I'm not meaning full milsim type shit of once a rifleman always a rifleman having to call the officers sir type of shit. I'm meaning more if a mission has an AA slot or whatever and someone feels particularly confident about their abilities then they should take it kind of deal. Also recommendations for other folks based on observation of their actions/antics on the field.

Just please don't have it be that everyone wants to be the cawadoody sniper.

Real talk though I am fine staying a rifleman. Maybe I will go medic if I ever figure out how to use bandages on other players. Also how do blood packs work?

I actually have no idea. I've never needed to actually use them so far, since usually people die outright rather than be unconscious due to blood loss

In Arma 3's main menu, go into Configure > Profile. Click edit then in the Squad URL, paste in https://github.com/K-64/WildHogs/blob/master/squad.xml . And then copy whatever is in Player ID and paste it in a post here so I can add that to the squad file.
