I'm way too low to participate. Imma just be happy I got the pyromancy guy and am expanding my spell set. I'm moving along slowly but surely. I'm enjoying the trip to be honest.

This game occasionally fucks up in the weirdest ways.

I have a character that's beaten the last boss, around 100 SL. Would be fun to jump in on this.

I can't bring phantoms into boss fogs for whatever reason anymore, whatever got an estoc and this silly lothric knight greatsword.

Yeah, I'm trying to get through things while keeping my SL as low as possible to host. I just need to get to Irithyl Dungeon for the Profaned Coal and then I'll be set for gear.

It's taking a bit of time just because of all the retries on things I keep running into. DEX/LUC doesn't give you much in the way of durability and my weapon setup only wears a shield on its back.

I just made it back to Anor Londo at SL 89. Everything seems much easier the second time around.

NEW PATCH

The Regulation version 1.06 will not require any downtime and will include the following changes:

• The range of the matching level of the Blade of the Darkmoon and the Blue Sentinels have been adjusted.
• The efficiency of the following categories has been adjusted: Short Sword, Twinsword and Magic.
• Other game balance improvement and bug fixes.

OH BOY. Hopefully that's a buff for Magic. And "adjusting" the matching for Blueberries hopefully means more opportunities to come to the rescue. Fuck year.

The question is do they mean "Magic" as in all magic, or "Sorcery"? My suspicion is that by "efficiency" they mean the Stamina cost- IE, casting spells will be less of a rapacious stamina devourer.

Apparently poise isn't real?

No, poise is apparently turned off

Whether that's an oversight or intentional is up to interpretation

So, we're back to Dark Souls 2 poise, where it says it's there but does nothing

Poise is not "turned off".

Poise is a measure of how susceptible you are to being interrupted DURING an attack (and possibly some other animations, not sure on that).

If you have a ton of poise and you just stand there doing nothing, any hit will cause you to flinch and you start getting combo'ed if you don't roll the fuck away.

If you have a ton of poise and you start swinging a gigantic hammer or something with a long windup, and Admiral Twinkenstein pokes you with his Estoc, you'll keep following through with your attack and clobber him without getting interrupted.

If you have a ton of poise and you start swinging a gigantic hammer, but someone either hits you with their own gigantic weapon or multiple stabs from a smaller weapon, you'll probably still get interrupted anyway.

If you want to test this out take a mace weapon or other club and use the weapon art. It temporarily gives you a fuckton of poise. Use the art and then bait mobs into stabbing at you, then try it while attacking.

If you're familiar with fighting games, it's the exact same shit as Super Armor. Poise is just Super Armor in DS3.

It's not Ds1 poise so it may as well be off

Hyper armor is lame, proper poise is where it's at

Name a time and place and I'll be there to stab you. I'm goofing around at that place where all the PvP goes on, that area behind that Pontiff boss fight.

Ugh, I'm just not having fun with the PvP anymore. It's still horribly unbalanced, greatshields and the Dark Sword being the worst offenders. The Estoc is basically just a pub-stomp- really deadly to people not prepared for PvP and to certain builds, but pretty counterable with skill and has actual weaknesses (first and foremost being merely okay damage.)

The Dark Sword isn't super frustrating to play against, but it IS undoubtedly the best all-around weapon in the game- also, it's phantom range is obnoxious.

I'm just gonna go back to DS2 PvP until balance patches.

I use gundyr's halberd and I have 0 issues fighting dark fags. It's also really good for taking out the host's sun crew. weapon art R2, toss hunter charm. You can either kill them or while they run, deal with the phantoms. hornet ring + knight slayer ring for turtles. easiest pvp of my life

How do you deal with greatshields? Even with Knight Slayers, I find myself routinely running out of stamina myself before the person with the shield does.

I'm getting pretty tired fighting 3v1, killing the host phantoms only for two more to be summoned by the time I start fighting the actual host.

3v1 is fine, being able to constantly summon reinforcements with no limit is fucking obnoxious.

It's actually apparently a legit strategy since the chaos gem will let the weapon scale for my better faith and int stats.


It's a pity early offensive miracles are garbage because I know those will help me fight back against assholes with fire resistance.

Fucking Force doesn't do dick anymore holy shit. I remember when that would send fuckers flying, now you can completely block it no fucks given, and even if you don't it just gently pushes someone backwards.

They BACKPEDAL. Or cast Magic Shield, which gives them perfect stability and they take no stamina damage from blocking ever.

The trick is to make the greatshield think youre out of stamina, wait for them to lower for the swing and then attack. That or kick them.

Gnaw and Black Greatsword ftw my friends

Gnaw and Dorhys Laughter are really slow to come out, but they can sometimes fuck with people at range because they have a weird slow speed and track decently well. They hit hard and cause a lot of bleed, but again they come out REALLY FUCKING SLOW.

Comparatively Great Deep Soul gets the same cool scaling buff (INT and FAI both count!), tracks like a bloodhound, and casts as fast as a regular soul arrow spell so you can spam the shit out of it. If you're looking to PRAISE THE DARK I would strongly recommend you check that spell out instead. I've shit on a lot of people in PVP by just spamming it. They'll roll around the first one and right into the second one, the cast is so fast.

EDIT: Oh fuck you it seems they nerfed it. Now you can only have a maximum of two projectiles out at a time. I would spam the shit out of this spell so there was a goddamn shitstorm of these things flying at someone. Can't have nice things.

I was really excited about it and then I read the edit. fugg. well, there's a lot of dark miracles that could work and maybe even some pyromancies. Totally like the idea of corvian dagger and sacred flame. S A C R I F I C E B O Y S. Anyway, what armor would look like the cultist set? I've been running brigand and thief mask while I get through the game so far.

If you're using dark miracles you NEED Caitha's Chime. This is not optional.
Your catalyst should be Izalith Staff. Again, no contest.
Get one of these and put it in your offhand when your slanging them sorceries. It also has a pretty cool weapon art where you light the candles on it and get spooky.

Ooh, dark miracles. I was meaning miracles in general. Caitha's chime is best suited for dark miracles, and can be found just around the dragonslayer's armour, as the wiki page would point out. Personally I'm a fan of high sorcery and a dusk crown in hyper mode myself.

Yeah, dark miracles. I want to kinda halt this build for pvp at *the* pvp spot, so I hope dragonslayer armour isn't too far.

You can just kill the high priestess, beat up the dancer and yakkety sax through lothric castle up to the chapel portion. All you really need is to be 120 sl with +10 right outside of Pontiff's bonfire and you can PvP to your hearts desire.

Okay, somewhat unrelated but I'm going to kill myself, I've been farming the deacons and I can't fucking get the robes, I have three skirts! THREE!

Been experimenting with mixing this Astora greatsword pyromancer build with dark miracles since i Just picked up Gnaw. It's kinda decent depending on resistances. Making some progress finally after taking a break for a bit.
