A few of us were interested in this at one point a long time ago.

Azari and I played it, and it's actually pretty fucking fun.

Prepare to scream and die a lot. In a fun way that is also SPOOKY AS FUCK.

Blatant Shillary because having two more MUHREENS around might let us actually fucking win one of these missions holy shit.

I've never seen a more cancerous description for a game and horrible meme video to go along with it.
You can turn your gun onahole off, right? Why is he slamming that thing up and down on his dick constantly otherwise? Fucking excessive headbob.

Looks cool

it has a lot of really aggressive camera affects and shit to fuck with yor immersions. lots of flashing lights and fucking with your FOV.

i dont know why the game tries to be so tongue in cheek sometimes and I agree its kinda fucking stupid but the game itself has a lot of neat shit going on

It doesnt seem to have a whole lot of depth to it but it's ridiculously difficult sobwe should be working at it for a while.

Even messing with the level settings so everything is on the easiest modes possible (barring just turning off enemies completely) I still died

Okay so Azari and I figured some shit out:

When you host a game everyone who joins starts a run that gets saved locally on your "server".
It's basically some roguelite shit where if you manage to survive a mission, you keep all the upgrades you unlocked from hacking data terminals and get to use that dude again on the next mission. Which is SUPER helpful because upgrades like the datacore mapper are fucking clutch.
If you die that's it. Even if someone else completes the mission you are starting a new run on the next mission with a blank slate.
Your run belongs to you, on the server you joined, so if you want to keep playing that run you have to rejoin that person's game when they are hosting it. In other words if you play on Azari's server and get a few missions deep, then jump over to play with me on a game I'm hosting, you'll have a blank slate again, but if you then jump back to Azari's server it SHOULD (not 100%) let you pick up where you left off with the guy you left behind there.

Not super critical, honestly. The upgrades help a lot but the core gameplay ideas of "holy fuck everything is eating me argh" don't change a whole lot.

so far the two most spook points for me are
1. when the enemies overrun me and i'm taken down and hit like 30 times in a second so you just hear gibs and hits and that is terrifying
2. while waiting for a turret to set up the fucking power went out so i couldn't open/close doors and all the other turrets nearby couldn't work

When the motion tracker kicks on and your vision starts jumping in and out to the pulses while the music spikes and it's reading like 3m or less and you don't see anything nearby but everything is going nuts

oh yeah the game literally has a seizure warning almost immediately
the options have settings to turn down your muzzle flash if you want to reduce that

And a short but sweet session with Wyzack.

First try we got overrun and ggd right quick. Second run we did not see any bugs until we were right beside the evacuation door but the whole mission was still really spooky. Fun game, can't wait to play more

This game really doesn't lend itself to screenshots or videos. All I can see in the steam store page are pictures of the whole screen covered by muzzle flash.

thats basically what happens whenever you shoot in this game, which is the only reason you fire in bursts, and the only reason why thermal vision and aim assist are good upgrades

It really doesn't. I think this is one of the rare games where an appropriate presser for it would be a couple people playing it showing how you can play together, work as a team, lose miserably, and still have fun. Because that's basically what it is, kind of a Space Hulk co-op roguelite thing.

Up to four players land on a derelict ship, and then scramble to gather all the datastores off of it and set the reactor to explode and get the fuck out of there before you become overrun by aliens and die horribly. It's very simple mechanically but the differences in layouts and level permutations provide all the fun. Sometimes you get into situations where there are two breaches (faucets through which aliens literally pour into the station) on either side of a datastore you need to capture to succeed and you just WELP that shit, hitch up your space britches, and go cap that point knowing full well you're going to fucking die horribly but maybe you'll achieve something so the rest of the team can set the station to blow and succeed without you.

As you grab datapoints you unlock upgrades, and if you manage to survive a mission you keep those upgrades to the next mission, so you can help people who died on the last run get back up to speed by leading the group. When the whole party gets wiped out though it's just a mad dash to achieve something before the whole group gets mutilated.

It's kinda retarded but because of the sudden influx of /tg/station people we actually are the majority of the game's active community.

It's a pretty good time for $15. I liked it so much I bought the game for two other people.

We have I think seven or eight people total with the game? We had a bit of a kerfuffle tonight when there was a full group of four and then two people stuck playing by themselves in a separate lobby.

Off the top of my head the roster is:

An0n3, EndgamerAzari, Chocobro, Remie, Skorvold, PAS, Wyzack, UnlovedRock...?

Genuinely fun. Long time since I actually shrieked at a game and was genuinely scared. That point when you hear the screams of your teammates and watch as their headcam feeds go black... knowing that at this point you probably wont make it... So much fun!

I kinda wish there was some sort of ramp of difficultly though, so it felt like there was more progression. Maybe the longer you play it the more chance you have of alien spawn points.

Ooh also a map editor would be neat, being able to make scenarios and share them would be pretty cool.

As mentioned, given that we are now THE community for the game, maybe we should take sometime to spread it. Im sure the dev's would appreciate it and if more people buy into it its more likely for them to want to spend time developing it.

You can't make a level from scratch but if you really liked a layout you played on you can write down the seed number and share it.

There's a button called "last played level" that doesn't actually work for some reason. You can push it and it sets all the options to the last level you played but it doesn't copy the seed number in.

If you're hosting you can to go advanced options and start messing with the seed number to see exactly the what output level is going to look like, then change some of the other options to tweak it a little bit.

The game does ramp up in difficulty the longer you are in a particular level so long as there are dead-ends (by default) for more breaches to occur. Usually there are only so many places the game can create valid breaches and so things can only get so crazy on each level. If you change the option to "random" so breaches can open up anywhere (like in the middle of rooms, hallways, right over your head, etc.) then you're truly fucked as eventually there will be a breach on every single tile of the map good fucking luck.

yes it does have splitscreen, camera options change on the 1-5 number keys
regular old splitscreen is 3, but i'm not sure if that's limited to two players or four

There's a-brewing about maybe trying to have a contest for BEST SPESS SKWAD

Get your besties together and see how far you can get without dying or some such. I think Remie has the current high-score for single most missions accomplished by a marine but with a little planning we could try to do a team contest.

12 missions solid no deaths, on hard(might have been easier+, whatever we were playing Monday night, I think we kept it on hard from the previous night's play)
Highest rank was Gunnery Sergeant which I got.

I think that would be fun just because i enjoy playing this game but I am still not super great at it. I roped a couple RL friends into playing splitscreen with me yesterday. They picked it up quick and really enjoyed it, assuming you have a big enough TV the splitscreen is really awesome. The game makes for a pretty good party game (assuming the people at said party play video games) just because the controls and concepts are so simple and the rounds tend to be very fast paced.

Being able to crouch would be super helpful but almost too good for how the game is setup. You're supposed to get in eachother's way.

I think it would be nice to have, though, for when four people are facing down a shitstorm of guys that you just can't otherwise handle which happens sometimes and you're just fucked.
To balance it, you should be able to crouch but while crouching you can't move at all, just spin in place, or maybe only be able to adjust your aim a little bit in the direction you were facing when you crouched.

That way you can't all just tacticool move around the map while bringing all four guns to bear all the time, but when shit gets real or you want to just camp and watch a breach you'll have a bit more of an advantage.

I dont know why but I started to think about SPYAT BLYAT as a board game and statting up the skwad

Remie Richards

+Go Getter: Remie hacks datacores 10% faster than normal and gains a 10% speed boost when in a room without xeno's.

-Mute: Remie does not count for determining number of marines in a room when the effect is beneficial to the marines.

Skorvold

+Wolfish: Skorvold gains 20% rate of fire and aim assist when in a room containing more xenos than marines.

-TRAILERS: Skorvold cannot close doors or activate fences when in LOS of a xeno.

People Are Strange

+Eager Cadet: PAS gets 20% movement speed increase when in a room with another marine. PAS hacks turrets 10% faster when in a room with another marine.

-Scaredy: All squad bonuses become penalties when in a room with more xenos than marines. PAS loses the friendly fire indicator when in LOS of a xeno. PAS deals double damage to marines.
