Won't I have to wait for two expansion packs before I get fully fleshed out experience?

From what I'm hearing, no.

Not touching this until it goes on sale

Seriously, I know enough civ to see that it's going to be a bad idea to buy it full price

The playthroughs with the 10-civ review copy makes it seem promising enough to potentially pre-order. The addition of districts makes it seem like you'll get more varied games depending on your maps.

At least it won't be another Beyond Earth.

The AI can be a hell of lot more aggressive in this game. It caught me by surprise.

I was just chilling in the Ancient Age minding my own business when around turn 30 Russia showed up at my doorstep with 8 fucking Warriors and knocked over my little mud huts.

It's quite refreshing, actually.

AI sometimes war decs when they're hopelessly outclassed in tech levels.

like wardeccing on me with swordsman when I have rifleman and cavs is just silly.

In my current game the sheeples civ is the most technologicalyl advance which is ironic, but due to my 135+ and growing income I quickly built research centers on all 14 of my cities and raking in new tech in 8 or less turns. Right now I'm in the atmoic age almost to information, just need artillery then I'm sweeping the board.

The observation balloon units are hilariously overpowered in the fact they stack their +1 range for bombardment units, up to around 6-7 hexes. Add an extra range if you can get a level 5 unit for the +1 range promotion.

I steamrolled an entire continent by sending in fodder to get view of the city while artillery sat multiple tiles away. AI has no idea how to counter and I'm assuming neither will most regular players.

So I won my first multiplayer round with 6 people. Half died of barbarians, one quit out of shear terror of my mighty island and the other one gave up soon afterwards.

I'm the best - SIMPLY - THE - BEST

Game's not perfect, but no vanilla Civ game has ever been. This is by far the cleanest launch the franchise has seen. 5 was a mess at launch.

I just bought this for multiplayer. The last Civ game I played was the cartoony revolution one. What am I in for?

The multiplayer is too slow to even be workable.

I tried a game with a mate in aus and it took 30+ seconds for turns to resolve, compared to almost instaneous processing in early game on single player.

Sounds like a network issue

I've gone and watched youtube videos
As expected, the AI sucks hard and relies purely on crutches and cheating for difficulty. Diety level AI starts with 2 settlers, 6 warriors, scouts, and gets a production boost(Maybe even some free workers) so you're fighting uphill from the start.
And they're extra aggressive, focusing on the player.

Which amusingly lets people capture the AI's settlers and workers so that they get ahead of the AI, since the AI is still awful at military and planning.
Perhaps multiplayer is better. I'll see if it goes on sale at some point

The issue with multiplayer is a bug with the city states AI causing round end lag.

My current game crashes every time I hit turn 240

I guess I'll have to restart now.
