Astroneer - Four player Co-op base building profit game

Looks rad. Up to four players run around on space planets terraforming shit to build little bases and vehicles to harvest resources and generate industry. Doesn't seem to go quite as craze as Factorio but the vehicles and shit look pretty cool.

Anyone else buying it? I'm pulling the trigger now.

90% of things are built using compound

please fix this posthaste

Other than that i really enjoy it. It's a cozy game to play alone and exciting exploration with friends. Having oxygen run out doesn't even seem like it's restricting you, Considering how easy it is to build tethers. All in all very good game. Even if it's early access, I would buy it for *maybe a reduced price* if it came out with this stuff, no future updates.

I enjoyed this a lot. There's a really comfy quality to it just hanging out exploring, putting down more tethers, and building shit.

The controls for driving vehicles around absolutely suck shit and the terrain smoothing is really wacky but otherwise it's pretty enjoyable. I love having the trading depot there to just harvest a bunch of bullshit like organic materials and send it off to buy a unit of something you desperately need but can't find. Makes things so much less aggravating than other games of this ilk

You can daisy chain rovers together and bolt more and more shit on them. I leave the last rover blank so I can put research objects I find while exploring the surface in there. Fun times.

I'm really enjoying this game so far.

The main conflict is range. How far you can wander away from your starting habitat before you've run out of O2 and need to make the return trip. You expand that primarily by building tethers, which are like lampposts that you hook into and get a constant O2 refill (as well as energy, if the base you're tether too has a surplus). You can also build improvements to your backpack like extra O2 tanks or power generators like solar cells and things.

There's no food/water mechanic. There aren't waves of aliens attacking you every night. Sometimes sandstorms kick up and can sweep through the area pummeling you with debris, which will kill you outright if it hits you. Deep underground there is some hostile fauna that can mess you up if you get too close to it.

On the whole though it's just a comfy game about exploring this pretty alien landscape while some nice ambient music plays. If you get bored with the planet you're on or feel like you've tapped all its resources you can build a lander and launch yourself to another one. It's still in early access so there might be more coming down the pipe but all in all I really like it just for what it is already. It's a serene little hike around an alien planet where the progess isn't measured in the tech-level of your guns or whatever, it's just about how far you can go.

It helps a lot, each extra rover is like an extra set of batteries as well as more storage space to build ontop of. I'm curious to see if the truck provides any extra advantages over the rover but it doesn't really seem like it. Using the crane with the drill attached to mine stuff is only arguably more efficient than just getting out of the rover and doing it by hand.

Is the shuttle an actual flyable vehicle or does it just bunnyhop you to the next planet?

You launch into a stellar map screen and then pick a planet to land on and then a spot on that planet to land. It's auto-piloted.

The shuttle itself provides your first segment of a potential base when you land, you can immediately build a node off of it if you have resin. I imagine you could then disconnect the shuttle from it and take off again but I'm not 100% given how wacky some of the interactions are between objects (eg. power generation in a base is kinda weird, some nodes randomly just dont share power with others and so having batteries charge up in areas where the power isn't fucked lets you unplug them, then socket them into the different facilities that need to be topped up. It's a work-around for now)

I tried tethering two rovers together and it drove like arse, it was like the back rover had its brakes on.

Truck drove much better and had everything the two rover setup I was using had.

I had the storage module though, maybe it weighs a shed load?

Nah, it shouldn't. This is a dumb question but you remembered to untether the rear rover from your base before you tried to take off, right?

It kinda tugs a little bit at first, try working your wheels back and forth but once the game figures out you're trying to move them together as one vehicle it works fine.

No I didn't because I thought it automatically untethered.

Yeah that must've been the cause, rehitched to a base moduled then disconnected it and now it no longer handles like something a kerbal would make.

I've found the truck has more pulling power and doesn't get blown about by the wind so I've hitched a rover storage trailer to the back of it, will probably add another as I find a crap ton of pods in the caves.

Ah nice, I like your placement of modules on the truck. Good use of the space. Was not aware you could place a storage unit on the rover to double its capacity like that.
