Bottom post of the previous page:

How do you get your adventure window to be bigger like that?

Mine is fucking teeny tiny and it abbreviates everything poorly.

Once 40.x gets stable, we should start a bloodline succession game.

Also, does anyone know if Fortress-mode dwarves will fight with the adjectives you can use in adventure mode?

I want to see double-attacking dual-axe-wielding axedwarves.

There's 0.40.02 lazy newb pack out there. No Dwarf Therapist or Stonesense but if you need tiles and shit there's that.

TBH, I was going to wait until DT comes out. DT is my one major crutch for enjoyably playing DF, but I imagine I could manage a year without it.
Also, tiles are for nerds.

Edit: It also sounds like Toady's fixed some crashes so we can expect a 40.03 pretty soon.

I use tiles.

And how the fuck do you find the entrance to a cave/dungeon etc.

Last edit but I murdered this necromancer and bragged about it to a random hero in a castle, does it end it or something bequest the quest area still stays on the map.

Try scroll-wheel inside the window.

Depends where they are, but usually it'll be a 1-tile whole in the ground/hillside. If you get a detailed description from npcs where the site is it'll appear in the compass top-left of the screen with a cardinal direction.

I get the direction thing down with the compass and even with a detailed description when im *** and any direction I move it says to go back to wench I came the supposed entrance isn't there after putting my head to the ground. Maybe the phoebus tileset on top of all of this god dam snow makes it impossible to pin point.

well if you don't wanna be a fucking pussy then you could try doing it as a peasant
then pick anything that's very sharp
put all of your points (except swimming and reading) on the weapon of your choice
strength, agility and endurance
powergame the chargen a bit for willpower, kinesthetic and spatial sense
grab whatever town's nearest the tower
kill the necromancers
kill the zombies (slash their upper body all the time, it's an insta-kill)
read the slab

I've tried to become a goblin vampire necromancer, so far I got to the vampire part but reading the slab isn't working

And why the fuck can't I brew shit. I have 100 plants plum helms and err thing and 20 reserved empty barrels right next to my god dam still. Yeah I brewed a few items and had no clue how but shit my dwarfs be getting thrisy during winter.

Check if you actually have a brewer. Then remove all other jobs from him if he doesn't brew enough. Create a stockpile of brewable shit near brewery. Make sure everything is accessible to dwarfs.

Also check if you have any empty barrels.

If you don't have anyone with brewing enabled just enable it on your cookin' dwarf. He'll git gud if he's the only one you have set to do it. I don't often find myself needing to urgently do both at the same time.

I'll triple dip and set the same dwarf to farm/cook/brew no fucks given in the beginning of the game. Once you have a gorillion dwarves running around you can split that up if you want, or you can make better use of your dwarves by just assigning more of them to go be miners or military dwarves. In my experience two of these dwarves set to do all three things is enough to keep a sizeable farm plot going while also keeping the whole fort fed and drunk.

To enable plump helmets to be brewed:

1) Go to your status/kitchen screen (z -> k)
2) Find plump helmets
3) Set them fuckers to brew

Like people have mentioned you need storage for that shit though as well. You need barrels for the wine and you need bags for the plump helmet spawn.

You're probably looking at the wrong menu. If you're going over to the kitchen and using it you're doing it wrong. You need to go to your whole fort's status screen like I described and change the permission for what is brewable/cookable.

Not havng brewers wasn't my problem, I got 2 people who can brew, brewed before some how and I have 20 reserved empty barrels and more than enough room for placement. THe the main issues was:
Can't enable to brew if it doesn't give me da option NERD

There's definitely something wrong in your layout if you have a still setup and the game isn't letting you use it.

It might be too cluttered or blocked somehow? Can you post a picture of the area your still is in?

My money is still on you having some kind of pathing issue to the still, making it inaccessible.

If you have it set into a 3x3 room and only one side is open make sure it's the bottom facing. In the past the still has looked like this:

X**
***
***

With the X representing the only block that you can't walk through.
I wouldn't be surprised if they changed it to

XXX
***
***

Or some such in the new version. The upperleft corner is the still itself and there's a workbench adjacent to it on the top row. So if you've built it alongside a corridor like so:

********************************************
XXX
***
***

There's a good chance you've accidentally walled the still off from the rest of the fort.

And if all else fails try having a builder deconstruct it and build it again just to see if that fixes it.

Each are spaced out equally from each other but besides that nope, it is a bug. It's the fact that it's not giving me the option at all to select to brew.
But I am brewing plum helms on muh other map right now.
To be robust is not about combat prowess, it is the state of readiness for the situation at hand.

Okay yeah I have no fucking clue why you're not getting the toggle then. What mods are you using?

I don't think it would affect your ability to toggle brewables but this page mentions a few things at the bottom:

http://dwarffortresswiki.org/index.php/DF2014:Brewer

Especially:
If the still is linked to one or more stockpiles, make sure they contain all the needed components (including barrels). Add more links, remove the current links, or just rebuild the still.
Do the stockpiles you put the barrels for brewing in also have the plump helmets or other items you wish to brew in them? Have you tried removing any links between the stills to see if that fixes it?

Not using any mods at all.

I have over 100 drink and just survived my 1st winter along with the dreaded weareghoper / human. For some reason my Sheriff of whom has a crossbow wrassled the enemy to death when he had a crossbow in hand and bolts toggled.
