I am excited for this despite everyone telling me it is going to be shit, as the company doing it is the same one that made Mordheim: City of the Damned and that was a fucking sweet game. I have wanted a revival of Necromunda basically forever, and a video game of this style is the next best thing.

Necromunda is a game where you play as a gang in the deep lawless bowels of an Imperial Hive world, a place called the Underhive. You equip and recruit for your gang, and your member accumulate experience and injuries as you vie for resources and territory.

It plays almost like very small scale warhammer 40k, where you control each of your gangers individually and they have more states than just dead or not dead.

One of my best bro's got into it with me and played Scavvy, I played Ratskins, my younger bro played Orlock, and my dad had some Cawdor and Redemptionists.

Some other friends had a few gangs too. Good times. The meta-game is a complete RNG shitfest. It can become horribly fucking broken if your guys roll good increases and you find the right heavy weapons. High BS skilled heavy weapons dudes with grenade launchers and rare grenades for example. It's like Blood Bowl with the safety completely torn off. It can get bad. Real bad. Vice versa you can level up into bad stuff. Juve gets a leadership increase and manages to kill your current leader to usurp authority of your gang congratulations your shits all fucked up fam. Some of the gangs special rules are pretty broken too. Yeah all my Ratskins can only have shitty autoguns and shotguns at best but we ignore prettymuch all the threats on the table from random events and if I get a shaman I can roll up wacky curses and other weird buffs for my team whoop whoop. Hiring pitslaves with shears and running around snipping the heads off enemy models during a match haha time to retire that graveyard.

Full disclosure I was never able to play necromunda because I could never get my lose friends excited about it and we don't really have enough tabletop terrain anyways. I did go through a phase of reading all the rules and planning gangs and shit. How sad is that

They suck, and their version of Mordheim was shit enough for me to refund it within steam's 2 hour limit
I hope GW realizes they fucked up and get that game made by someone actually competent

I never looked in to Modheim's tabletop rules and admittedly i did not play city of the damned for very long as a consequence of that, but i thought it was decently well received.

Would be kinda rad to get a small league going with grognards.

Just understand before you start playing that the balance between gangs goes right out the fucking window really quickly. Once that power gap opens up it quickly cracks wide open and you start getting into matches you have no chance in hell of winning. The scenarios try to balance that somewhat, but using them requires knowing which ones to pick and even then it's kinda dicey. Trying to pull off a hit on someone's super soldier can go really wrong and just wind up with them obliterating you anyway and getting even more experience and rewards for doing so.

Like Blood Bowl you have to enjoy losing and seeing your guys get ruined to fully enjoy the entire game without ragequitting. Even if you win fights sometimes your guys come out mangled or worse and it can often feel like you're just losing all the time.

If you can stomach it though you get really cool personal narratives about individual gang members who pull off crazy shit and evolve to become hardened motherfuckers. Just be prepared to see all your favorite dudes lose eyes, limbs, attribute points, or just plain die.

I don't completely remember. I think if a dude dies you cross them off your roster before you get a chance to shuffle gear around and such, so if I'm remembering the order of operations right you also lose any cool rare gear they had too.

Vaguely I remember setup order as like:

Determine gang ratings and compare
Roll for scenario (or pick, in certain situations)
Choose units to deploy
Setup table
place units
Roll for any "start of game" stuff
Have fight
post-game roll injuries for anyone who has them, apply them
roll level ups for anyone who has them (and survived the previous step)
deal with any further effects of stat increases (mainly challenging for leadership but some other stuff sometimes)
WORK PHASE assign guys to go work different properties one by one and roll to see what each one accumulates in credits (or has a mishap in doing so in some cases)
Assign guys to go do special stuff like search for rare goods or mercenaries(?) and other stuff
Hire/fire gangers, re-equip gangers
Total up your new gang rating


...and it that's right then your dude and all his sweet stuff is long gone by the time you get to shuffle shit around

Unless things seriously changed since I looked, it's a huge mess with laughable UI, piss-poor AI, shit tier balancing("Just give the AI extra health") and a camera/movement system that fights you more than you fight the opponent. It is clunky and tiresome just to play and the devs don't give a shit, they just pretend it's intentional. Intentionally bad is still bad.
Aside from that, it is clunky to play and does not seem to have anything resembling the actual mordheim game unless you are very generous and blind

Clunky to play is something I'd be okay with, laughably bad UI is something I would be okay with, and a camera that fights you is alright if, and all these three combined only work when they actually deliver a good game.
They didn't, they didn't deliver anything even remotely resembling a good game.
If you want a good adaptation of a tabletop game to a computer game, get Bloodbowl. Because Mordheim got fucked up so hard that I doubt it will see sales outside of a small group of people who don't mind these things AND don't know the other variants out there.
Shit, give me Dungeonbowl over Mordheim, Dungeonbowl sucked, but at least it worked most of the time

Back when I had a few dudes to play with, right before GW stopped supporting their specialist games, we used Necro as the pseudo rp game it was meant to be. Each gang was kitted up as best as we could min-max, but each player still set out with their own individual goals (reputation, trophies, controlled territory/turf war) and we set up scenarios and challenges from that point. If we could use some sort of league structure like that and use it to say, keep track of a set amount of controllable territories and brawl over those we could probably end up with something interesting no matter how the actual games go.

The gamr has that in it already if you just make proper use of the scenarios.

The big issue I encountered in actual play was that most of the idiots I played with completely ignored it and just went for Gang Fight every opporunity they had, because they wanted to field their whole crew against whole crew in some approximation of their wargames.

The game is better balanced if you remember it is also political. Dedicated hits against powerful gangs are a big part of play, as are campaigns to get really huge gangs outlawed. It is 100% correct you shouldn't just gangfight over and over, part of the meta strategy is trying to build alliances and working together to do more targeted missions to curtail the big guy. It definitely is the sort of game where if people aren't willing to play pollitically you may as well not play, because refusing to work with others will result in a kingmaker scenario.

If we want to get a TTS league going I am down.

i know those feels man, we only have a official GW store here, so they wont run it and i simply don't know enough people interested in it to run, which sucks.

I had a fucking blast playing Necromunda and would be open to playing again in the future. The league kinda died out, i cannot speak for everyone else but i got really busy with other shit and have way too many tabletops going atm to re-start, but if there is interest you guys could pick it up and keep going. I would certainly love to run a pickup game every once in a while

I still have my list too but it got so hard finding games around my semester schedule that it just became a pain. Being an adult blows.
