If only this was glorious preferences based voting it would already be sorted, oh well.

I stand by my opinion that voting for Ikkarus is voting for heavy handed "roleplay" and "play my way" administration.

Hornygranny is HBL v2.

Bluespace wont get any respect from anyone in current administration and will have little impact.

Also find it hilarious that out of 7 candidates 4(!) are going to second round. Over half. Democracy ho, that tied vote.

I offer no endorsements, but I will say in the interests of both the admin team and playerbase, of which their respective headmins are meant to represent, do not vote HG for player headmin and create a coderbus majority over all headmin decisions.

Well, technically speaking we aren't sure it's a two-way tie for 3rd.

If even one person used a second ckey to vote for either candidate twice it breaks the tie and we'll have a proper runoff between the top 3.

Hell for all we yet know all of my votes could've come from a very enthusiastic Tonto.

It's a run-off vote. Login to the server, click player votes, and vote again

This time there are only three candidates to vote for.

Quartz has been good about organizing this portion of the forums and keeping people informed.

No but yeah, Subtle started this with the Headminstration 2.0 thread, I just kept it going to the logical conclusion.

For the admins' vote: if we use Preferential/Instant-Runoff (Australia style woop woop), sent to 1-2 coordinators + SoS for verification, we can have an anonymous list of preferences sent to the people taking the votes, then post the individual ballots but not the names attached, so each person can (in theory) recognize their own ballot and have our total listing verified by hostman. We would then, well, use an instant runoff process as mentioned. We can even run it concurrently with the vote for HG to be the coder Headmin so that we can simply eliminate the coder headmin from the listing because Instant Runoff is basically the best electoral system.

We should use whatever system allows us to sidestep the perceived necessity for "strategic" voting.

Ikarrus wrote:We should use whatever system allows us to sidestep the perceived necessity for "strategic" voting.
That'd be instant runoff. Completely and utterly negates all voting strategy other than "List my preferences in order".

Re: Headmin Election General

Posted: Wed Oct 29, 2014 8:57 pm
by Malkevin
The problem with instant runoff is that only the second choices of the least desirable candidate are counted.

Lets say there are four candidates. A & B have similar stances (stance X), as do C & D (stance y)

Stance X is more popular with the electorate so first round of voting is thus:
A - 32%
B - 28%
C - 22%
D - 18%

So A is in the lead after the first count but stance X is split between A and B so neither has a majority
D is eliminated but guess who they voted as second choice.

So second round ends up being :
A - 32%
B - 28%
C - 40%

So the candidate which 60% of voters didn't want ends up being elected.

lol guys everyone knows the best system is proportional representation.

Anyways, admins have a thread to discuss how we'll vote in the secret admin forums.

Re: Headmin Election General

by Incomptinence
Your example is incorrect. C would actually be eliminated before ballot conclusion leading to a next step where the next preference of their vote would decide the ultimate conclusion and at the last 2 runner step A or B are likely to have a majority. *

Glorious compulsory vote would be optimal too. Don't vote don't play.

*rare equal number of votes scenario means a perfect 50 50 split could still happen

Malkevin wrote: So second round ends up being :

Then clearly the solution is to simply hold a second runoff and get rid of B. Assuming everyone who voted for B has A as their second choice, you get

A - 60%
C - 40%

Which I think about matches up with what the electors wanted, really.

I never got around to posting the post clean votes of round 1:

Code: Select all

+-------+-------------+
| votes | candidate |
+-------+-------------+
| 39 | AN0n3 |
| 38 | Bluespace |
| 31 | Ikarrus |
| 29 | Hornygranny |
| 19 | Pandarsenic |
| 10 | MisterStaub |
| 4 | Comrade Leo |
+-------+-------------+
In sort: Excludes new accounts and throwaway/idle accounts who have not played the game much or at all (ie: likely throwaway/alt accounts). Also excludes all admin and .txt coder votes.
While this likely caught some false positives, any changes to the vote ranking from the pre-clean actually gets investigated to ensure legit votes are counted.

In this case, this did not actually change the ranking at all, as votes of new players, inactive players were evenly spread about. And there doesn't seem to be any suggestions someone tried to rig it. HG/ikky losing so votes was mainly from having admin's vote not counted.

No votes were removed, just excluded from the count. So sos can check all my numbers himself. (nor do I have write access to the game database.)

Yeah this is a bit whacked. I just walked in the door and sat down to a bunch of people like "HAIL THE NEW HEADMIN" and there's only a single vote margin. That's not cool.

If it's alright with everyone I think we should do a third runoff vote just between Bluespace and myself. For all intents and purposes 78 vs 77 is just another tie.

I appreciate everyone voting for me, but I'm also aware of the many number of people who didn't. I'm going to do my best to look at Bluespace's platform and incorporate as much of that as I can in an effort to provide a result that more players can be satisfied with. I'm aware you can't make everyone happy all the time, but looking at the numbers I'm keenly aware that there are more people who did not vote for me than did.

It's the goal of a good leader to do right by everyone, not just their constituents. So I'll strive to maintain a policy that is true to my own standards while also incorporating more of the ideas of my competitors.

Thank you.
