Forced to roleplay - Dystopian policy discussion

Postby J_Madison » Sun Apr 15, 2018 2:40 pm #400298

Captain is enforcing roleplay on the station.

Atmospheric footnotes and context for discussion:
Due to Security, maint access restriction, and criminalisation of non-essential equipment, uprisings and coups will not happen; You are simply unable to get powerful enough to challenge them. Any coups, riots, and uprisings will be crushed and punished.
Assistants literally have no rights and are expected to answer to anyone and everyone. Being demoted or resigning here pretty much means you don't matter anymore. You're powerless.
Heads of staff and security are impossibly loyal, protected, and extremely competent. Deadchat whining and lategame antags/events will not stop their rule and will lose.

You are being forced to do your job.
Possessing non-job equipment is punished and Vigilantism is punished.
Using OOC/meta language is highly punished.
Doing things outside of your job requirements is punished. Staff must request to do so requires job qualification.
Dissenters are detained and subject to re-education, forced labour, and punishment until they are catatonic, braindead, or broken and humbled.

Bureaucracy is enforced.

How is this handled?
Is this an IC issue?
Are we allowed to impose our will on others?

What can we do about it? Go braindead or go along with it?

Since you're permabanned and by default have not experienced such a situation on our server recently, discussing this would be about as useful and relevant as discussing the repercussions of Jesus Christ returning to earth and rapturing the playerbase.

Yes, it does. But it does show what kind of players frequent the server when there was serious upset during my time as HOS where even forbidding vigilantism caused a small scale three way war during clockcult.

Anyway, tg is by far the most forgiving, diverse, and flexible server.

So what happens, when a player from an unforgiving, homogeneous, and rigid server enforces his style by right to play as Captain?

They'll probably either get lynched or get sec too cooperate.

If they wish to enforce space law to the T they can, but if it's excessive people will probably rebel.

well for the context of discussion; sec and heads are loyal and highly competent and will stop people from lynching or rebelling.

I'm curious if there are policies on the excessive enforcement of roleplay and gameplay.

So it's handled entirely IC?

A bucket of water or a single bar of soap is enough to beat any officer. You can make it with gibs and ashes. If you want to get more creative, you can use the medical holodeck to make lube or explosives from common items. An explosive lance is also very easy to make and extremely effective if you can catch an officer by surprise

we're talking about the context of this case. Buckets and soap are restricted items and if someone reports you or security sees you with it, you would be hunted down, detained, and punished for possessing non-vital equipment. Security is extremely competent in the context of the case, and slipping will be difficult, killing them (without backup stopping you) impossible.

and most importantly, we're discussing the policy of when others impose an unorthodox playstyle on others; how are they meant to handle it and are there rules against it.
