use the metal shard to chop off the rake part of the rake, leaving you with a wooden pole

then take the metal shard and cut a notch down the middle, then go outside, use the metal shard to cut down some ivy, then lash the metal shard to the end of the wooden pole

use some of the ivy for a grip too for extra rake action

someone's already done "search the fireplace" so I'll follow it up with the other part of the puzzle "look under the rug"
