Kaine is very wealthy, if anything, comparatively short of what August possesses. Well, his /father/ is very wealthy. I'd like to think his father shares a significant amount of share holdings in Nanotrasen as well.

Terick doesn't need much actual money. He has a ship to live in, but otherwise he's got a "why pay if I can steal it?" mentality. So most of said equipment on the ship has probably been stolen. The ship was probably stolen too. The Syndicates usually pay him in... something when he takes jobs from them though.

Oh, never answered my last questions.
When August hears the first news story, he doesn't even look up from his newspaper.
When August hears the second news story, he starts barking orders and buys out the news station. He then has every single member involved in making that broadcast made into Cyborgs and puts them to work.
When he calms down and catches the end of the news, he reminds his personal chef he likes his steaks rare.
