Official Imperial Recruitment Thread

It is the dawn of the 41st millenium, and mankind is beset on all sides by enemies. The foes without, such as the ravening ork hordes, the ever hungry swarm of the Tyranid, and the conniving and pernicious eldar. The foes within, such as the foul heretic, the warp addled preacher, the genestealer cult. It is true that the fury of the Immortal God Emperor of Man takes many forms, such as the iconic an implacable Adeptus Astartes, the pious Battle Sisters of the Eclessiarchy and the ever vigilant and merciless arm of the Inquisition, but it is not these elements that are responsible for the greatest number of victories. Nay, that honor falls to the brave men and women of the Imperial Guard, the Hammer of the Emperor, the backbone of the fighting forces of the Imperium and the force responsible for more military victories than any others combined.

These soliders face the worst horrors the galaxy has to offer with nothing more than a lasgun, a flak jacket and a prayer. It is only in the depths of despair that mankind can show true heroism, snatching victory from the jaws of defeat by cunning strategy and unerring will against forces many times their superior. The Imperial Guard is the most numerous and varied fighting force in the galaxy. Enlist today, and serve your Emperor!

Ahem, now that the rhetoric is out of the way, basically i want to run a game of Only War, Fantasy Flight's (RIP IN PEACE) roleplaying game about being a poor bastard in the Imperial Guard, being the baseline human in an age of superhumans. I am only looking to run a one (or maybe two) shot campaign some time over the next month, probably over roll20 although i am open to ideas.

That is of course assuming anyone is actually interested. I figure we could design our own homeworld and regiment using the regiment creation rules in the rulebook and a sort of consensus vote type thingy in here. Even if no one wants to play regiment create is pretty fun.

TL:DR I want to run an Only War oneshot campaign, lets make a regiment

post if you are interested

CURRENT ROSTER

Anonmare: Medic
Ausops: Weapon Specialist
Danno: Weapon Specialist
Galvatron: Weapon Specialist
Shadowdementio: Operator
Sawrge: Heavy Weapons specialist
Owegno: Commisar

I'm in

can I use d20 from my phone tho?

FIRST

Basically this is going to be a game a bit more serious in tone and incredibly deadly as benefits the system. Specialists such as Ogryn and Tech priests can make up no more than a quarter of the party, and no psykers unless you can convice me you can play the role well and don't mind being hated by literally everyone including your team mates (suffer not the witch to live and all that)

First question, what sort of homeworld?
Death world
Fortress world
Highborn
Hive World
Imperial World
Penal Colony

EDIT dank ass DLC edition

Agri world
Frontier world (spess australia)
Forge World? (little reluctant on this one, Skittari are their own thing for a reason)

tfw cucked in my own thread

I think you can but you need to pay money for roll20 plus or some shit? It is pretty garbage tbh

Also feel free to try even if you don't know about/don't really care for 40k, the small mind is easily filled with faith

I know a bit of lore from 40k so it's not like i'm going in blind. Maybe one eye shut.

Penal Colony pls

I'd be down depending on what days are scheduled.

Death Worlds are the funnest.

I'm down to get murdered by aliens even though I have minimal ideas as to what 40K is about, I just know that there are aliens (that are the bad guys) and humans who all worship the God Emperor (who is the good guy and is cool) and there's Chaos that's basically the big bad and that's about it.

Nah man you got it all mixed up, Chaos are the good guys and cool and the Emperor is the big bad holding humanity down.

But yeah I'd be down to play, reminds me I need to get my copy of Only War back from my friend.

And Penal Colonies all the way mang.

Seriously, knowing nothing about the setting is almost better for this game, as the average trooper knows dick all about the galaxy at large other than foes he has specifically fought.

Penal Colony is a bold choice. For those who do not know you are basically criminals sentanced to death by solider, and outfitted with explosive collars that your CO uses to kill you when moral is low or you try anything shifty. I am not against it, but it will certainly change the feel of the game

Alright then, you are all penal legionairres in service to the Emperor.

Next choice, which of these characteristics best describes the commanding officer of your regiment?
This is not the guy in charge if your little squad personally, but he his near the top of command of your unit and his style of command will largely decide what your life is like serving in the military

Bilious
Circumspect
Choleric
Fixed
Maverick
Melancholic
Phlegmatic
Sanguine
Supine

(RIP crag :( i will slip an homage in i swear)

Phlegmatic, maverick, or sangine in that order of preference.

Obviously having a bravado maverick WE CAN FUCKING GET THOSE XENOS GUYS would be fun but suicidal, having a calm commander who would make the best decisions tactically but perhaps not morally would make sense considering our situation in Shitsfuckedville.

Sanguine

I thought sanguine meant bloody?

Re: Official Imperial Recruitment Thread

Sanguine wins! Your commander is loud and boisterous, hell bent on dragging you poor damned sods to victory. He is a little overzealous though, and routinely ignores obvious danger in the pursuit of glory, you all gain the Die Hard talent since you have become skilled at not dying under his command.

Next (and most importantly) is regiment type. What is your assigned combat role?

Right off the bat i am nixing Armoured and probably hunter killer regiment. Not only would they never in a thousand years let you reprobates drive a tank, hellhound or sentinel, having the entire squad man a single vehicle pigeonhole's what we can do in terms of adventures a bit. If you guys are really really in to it i can however change this.

Drop Troops: You get dropped out of speeding aircraft with barelt functional gravity belts to slow your descent and hopefully not die. Like Halo's ODSTs but more dangerous

Light Infantry: lightly armed and armored and focussed on manouverability, this is most likely for a penal colony as your starting kit is lighter and therefore much cheaper. A las carbine and a flak vest rather than a full lasgun and flak armor

Line Infantry: the basic imperial guard troopers sent in to a variety of combat zones to die. Likely bearing the brunt of combat in most forms, you get a nice lasgun and some decent armor

Mechanized: Like line infantry but you also get a chimera armored transport for your squad.A little unorthadox for a penal legion to get such an expensive standard kit but some times you gotta go fast

Siege Infantry: Good old fucking mud n blood trenchers. You focus on siege warfare, both offense and defence. You get a good kit of grenades and some sandbags to supplement your kit

This choice will determine much of your basic gear as well as what battlefield operations you will be expected to carry out

Since armored is out I prefer drop troops since drop sentinels are my favorite thing to use in apocalypse. Mechanized is my secondary preference.

This is me. Literally me. No other character can come close to relating to me like this. There is no way you can convince me this is not me. This character could not possibly be anymore me. It’s me, and nobody can convince me otherwise. If anyone approached me on the topic of this not possibly being me, then I immediately shut them down with overwhelming evidence that this character is me. This character is me, it is indisputable. Why anyone would try to argue that this character is not me is beyond me. If you held two pictures of me and this character side by side, you’d see no difference. I can safely look at this character every day and say “Yup, that’s me”. I can practically see this character every time I look at myself in the mirror. I go outside and people stop me to comment how similar I look and act to this character. I chuckle softly as I’m assured everyday this character is me in every way. I can smile each time I get out of bed every morning knowing that I’ve found my identity with this character and I know my place in this world. It’s really quite funny how similar this character is to me, it’s almost like we’re identical twins. When I first saw this character, I had an existential crisis. What if this character was the real me and I was the fictional being. What if this character actual became aware of my existence? Did this character have the ability to become self aware itself?

If you guys want to crew a tank we can make it happen, but i want you all to know what you are in for. Most of the time you will all be in a tiny cramped compartment. One guy drives, one guy mans the main cannon and two more work sponsons. The mission will by and large always revolve around the tank. There will be little in the way of classic infantry combat, you all exist to support the tank.

If you guy wanna do it i am game

You are forgetting the Russ's commander and loader. Anyway I would certainly be down for armor since I love Lemons will all my heart and changing to something like a death world would be cool. I'm pretty much down for anything though, but line/light inf is a little generic for me.

I've never been this excited befo

can I join in/vote siege, the first and last only war game I ever played involved a lot of explosives

edit- regiment type doesn't necessarily mean mission type does it? it wouldn't be the first time for munitorum clerks to send the wrong things to wronger sides of the galaxy

Re: Official Imperial Recruitment Thread

Won't necessarily determine the mission type, just the general types of missions you are supposed to expect

With ausops in the scales are officially tipped even without the coin flip, you lads are a seige regiment mustered together from a penal colony. Keep in mind that does not mean you will never see vehicles, there is a guardsman class specifically for having tech aptitude. Hold on and i will try to find a source on some books

My search has been fruitless, pm me and i will send you the core rulebook via dropbox probably tomorrow and you can start making characters, or find it yourself. We will also finalize regiment creation tomorrow. Start coming up with ideas for what your character did to get the space gulag, as well as what our uniforms should look like

Alright lads, now that i have disseminated a few rulebooks i encourage you all to start taking a look at character generation

We are doing point buy, mostly because i am too lazy to coordinate a roll20 room for rolling attributes at this stage.

No more than 25% of the party can be specialist roles. Given our party size that means one, maybe two if you convince me. The game functions best when the support specialists do not outnumber the guardsman in the party. Likewise i am putting a firm no on psykers and ratlings, as well as a tentative no on ogryn (but as always if you are in love i am sure we can work something out). I will let you guys work it out amongst yourselves who gets the specialist role or roles (assuming anyone wants them, i honestly find them less interesting)

Also i am willing to allow whichever player chooses sargent (or possibly commisar) to be the squad's tard wrangler and more importantly bomb collar detonation key holder. This comes with the provision that you do not use your power to be a dick to other players as well as take the responsibility of being the link in the chain of command. If no one wants to we can sub in an NPC easy.

Spending XP on upgrades is a massive pain in the dick so lets handle that together after everyone's characters are made.

I have also decided that since you are penal legionaaires we are gonna have the combat drugs equipment doctrine, as the Departmento Munitorium finds you psychopaths fight better when whacked out on stimm and slaught

We still need to pick regimental favoured basic weapon and regimental favoured heavy weapon, and i will finalize the standard kit when i am done work today.

As always feel free to ask me any questions

Re: Official Imperial Recruitment Thread

Also in general i like to let any players who pick weapon specialist have first dibs on deciding the regimenatal favoured basic weapon and heavy weapons dudes have the same on deciding our heavy weapon, since this will decide what sort of kit they can start with
