Strict admins make the game less fun. Turn to Paradise for example where the admins are strict that they perma ban you for saying cuck. I also find that stricter admins do less events, which is a no-no. TG is popular for the fun and the chill admins add to that fun.

on the one hand taking things too seriously is a one way track to having your server be hated

on the other I think a lot of fun comes out of taking things semi seriously (eg. I like somewhat structured/tacticool games like arma or squad) and taking nothing seriously is just as bad

They should never strive for one extreme. Such would drastically affect the player-base and jade them. They should strive to find a balance.
That balance is, unfortunately. Different depending on the admin/player you ask. And until a clear "Balance" can be properly established to be followed, that is how it will remain.

However, as they are the Administration, and are the people expected to enforce rules and prevent them from being broken, and assist in making the game more enjoyable. By choice and definition. I, as a player, personally believe they should be on more of a "Stricter" side. But they should still recognize that, to an extent. It is just a game.

As of recent, a lot of things are negatively affecting my enjoyment of the server/playerbase. And those things are slowly making it desirable to abandon the community. As-well as visibly having caused some players to do such.
Furthermore, i feel that the administration may be a little detached from the playerbase. It feels as though quite a few tend to afk observe and wait for bwoinks while they watch youtube or do other things. Missing what seems to me, to be very blatant unahelped cases that could probably warrant a simple and quick friendly warning in order to prevent it from escalating into a real problem that would lead to both players being frustrated in the future. While simultaneously preventing the behavior from re-occurring repeatedly until someone bothers to ahelp it. And by that point, they'd have thought it was kosher.

Or, some seem to simply never play the game ICly, only handling OOC administrative tasks. Which i'd imagine makes it a tad difficult to consider the game/situation or how it could affect someone; from a player perspective.

Tl;dr. I personally think the Admins should maintain a balance of things, but not be afraid to do something that may seem "anti-fun" if it would make the game more enjoyable to the player-base as a whole. They should probably be more active, ICly and OOCly, with the community/game So they may understand things from the perspective of a player on the server they administrate. Perhaps they should discuss more amongst each-other and with the playerbase, in order to find ways of handling issues the player-base sees. Rather then be afraid of seeming "Anti-fun".

following rules to a tea is retarded beyond belief, the only task of an admin is to make the game fun for most people and not through god awful events, acting "professional" is stupid because in no way ever should you be treating this seriously at all. You try and make the game fun for most people, sometimes you remove people who are just being dicks sometimes you let stuff go because people don't really care that dude killed them and didn't TECHNICALLY HAVE THE CORRECT JUSTIFICATION FOR DOING SO

As others have said, it's about finding the happy balance between turbohitler banman and doesn't even take their job seriously. Some admins here fall into one or the other category, I feel like most have found a happy balance, or as close as they're going to get without totally changing their personality and the way they handle stuff. In an ideal world, you wouldn't have to memorize how each admin interprets the rules and how they deal with various situations but that will never happen. If you feel like there's a specific issue with an admin you should probably bring it up in their thread rather than making a post in policy discussion that feels like it may or may not be aimed at an admin/admins.

Admins not being super literal and exercising discretion based on context is a fundamental to even being an admin.

Not being 100% serious all the time is good too, because at the end of the day this is just a game we play for fun.

On the other hand, it was really lame when sawrge made a calzilla tier thread in the admin board and we had to lock it.

There's a happy medium we can reach here, and I think a lot of the team is already at it.

As an aside, I'm curious what prompted this thread.

Admins being shit makes players think it's OK for them to be shit, because after all, look at the admins.

I don't think admins should aim to be dead center all the time, I think that a good admin knows when it's time to be serious and take things seriously and when to meme the fuck out. If it's always centered there will always be something to be desired in the admins resolutions

The primary goal of an admin should be to make sure things are fun.
Whether that's removing players that make things less fun for others, letting some shenanigans slide because it had a net benefit on fun, or spicing up an otherwise bland round with fun events.

actually, in a non shitposty reply i think that admins should have the ability to judge when to be serious and when to not, and be able to change it on the fly.
