So recently I've been asked by admins to change the name of a character "Nyanaroni An'Cheese" because it breaks the naming rule, however I don't see how this does and I believe it falls under minimum effort not excessively OOC. I was told I'm not the only person this applies to despite the fact that another catgirl player Cup Cake is able to keep their name? I've never heard anyone named Cup. At least mine could be argued to be spaceage gibberish. I know that the user who plays Cup Cake was banned for refusing to change the name before, but they were unbanned and continue to play the character. Either you let all slightly stupid names through or you don't. Smell testes are unfair and the rules need to be updated regarding names and enforced on EVERYONE, because smell tests clearly aren't working.

Naming policy is probably gonna get reviewed any day now and it hopefully bans all excessively stupid names.

I'd like to see a policy that basically states "does this name seem like a person would have without being mocked every moment of his existences."

Also I'm okay with Verbs-the-noun for lizards since it's so ingrained it's lore. Especially with lizards natively speaking draconic it makes sense that they have names that translate weirdly.

Cup Cake and smells the feet is ok but anything else we arbitrarily dislike is a huge no-no, pumpkin

I suppose I don't have too much of a problem, though some of the legendary names such as Ostrava and Pepper Mint would obviously be the ones that have to go with a strict naming policy.

Though, these people in this thread are not the ones that are going to have to deal with the wrath of the players who are forced to have their name changed.

Either way, I suppose I lean on stricter name policy and Cup Cake probably needs to go.

if you actually have some sort of roleplay personality to go with the name, that justifies you being called jerks-off-in-public or whatever, it's a whole different story than just having a meme name like nyan cheese or whatever the fuck it is.

When I was first born, I was different. I was more aerodynamic than the other babies. More slippery, too. When I left the womb, I came out flying. Apparently I was also bouncier than the other babies, because I then ricocheted off of the walls for what my parents recall as "a good five minutes." This of course left me horribly disfigured, as a baby should not suffer that many high velocity blunt impacts. My face was comparable to that of a bowl of mac n cheese, and still is to this day. I was undateable. Unfriendable, even. My face was so incredibly revolting that in a last ditch attempt to look cuter I decided to have genetically modified cat ears and a tail grown on me. However, I also happen to have suffered severe brain damage, which has caused me to become incredibly mentally deficient, and in my haze of stupidity I overlooked the fact that cat ears do not make the face look better. They do not even draw attention from the face. I have since suffered many hardships due to my various and incredibly revolting disabilities. If you asked what the hardest one was, though, I'd tell you it was when I started to get called Nyanaroni An'Cheese.

On the other hand purposefully breaking a policy in bad faith because another edge case was allowed is kinda dickish

you can't allow stupid names like smells-the-feet or any other severely retarded lizard name like allad minsa recucks and then proceed to harass legitimate players over Nyanaroni An'Cheese

at most you could ask the player to make the last name Ancheese, which is fairly believable

So long as we can keep relatively silly names that still work as names (Ostrava of Nanotrasen, Aria Bollet, Megumin Bakuretsu) then I don't see any harm in toughening up a bit on the edge case stuff like food names.

Also, "why isn't Nyanaroni nCheese allowed when Cup Cake is??? Both are food names! Smell tests don't work!!" shouldn't be taken as a serious prompt for a policy discussion. Acting in bad faith to make a point is more toxic than the actual edge cases.

Cup Cake behaviour and personality was also in tune with her name and she did actually play the game unlike the BigBlackSausage of the week who only logs in the game to force a policy thread.

litmus test should be whether some effort was put into the name/playing the game or not, since names are just names, what a player does in game has more effect on others

some fuckwit who joins as big black sausage and goes around griffing should get banned, somebody who joins as '''cup cake''''''''' but plays the game seriously should be given a pass

What really activates my almonds is, why even go for Nyanaroni when Mac is a legitimate first name/nickname and you can then go for Ancheese or any other phonetically similar iteration for the last name

I also checked facebook to see if there are any people named Pepper Mint and there's shitton of asians named like that

Naming policy isn't bad it's just enforced so inconsistently that it causes complaint when a more heavy handed admin enforces it after a dozen other admins have seen the name and done nothing about it.

I still fail to see why Ostrava of Nanotrasen is a bad name, he could have gotten that by being some orphan who was corporately adopted by NT, is it just that one person didn't like it any everyone else piled on it?

So basically a policy discussion thread.

What I don't understand is why people seem to have such an issue with "literally just pick a first and last name with minimum attention to not being retarded" and still fuck it up. Even if a name is a "super clever pun" the cleverness has definitely run its course after the 90th time people have seen it. Just pick a name that actually sounds like a name rather than a mass of gibberish collected into two places that only incidentally sounds like a phrase but is meant to pass off as a name.
