Naming policy on pop culture names

Mainly video games, movies and other things.

Not only these are extremely lame 99% of the time, they break my immersion (feel free to joke about that).

But most importantly, they are extremely uncreative and dumb.

I hate seeing 4 different versions of snake's name from mgs and 16 year olds that name themselves adolf hitler.

EDIT: As with all dumb names these should only belong to clown/mime.

Jokes aside, so long as the name doesn't break naming policy I don't really see it as a problem. I'm fine with someone calling himself Todd Howard and messaging people to buy his game; it's still a feasible name for a crew member. Nicknames or codenames like Solid Snake are dumb though. Pretty sure those are already accounted for in the rules.

I don't see a problem with them as long as they're somewhat realistic. I still think the "would you send your child to school with that name" saying is relevant here though I would discount the likely mockery they would receive from the knowledge of the pop culture reference.

MGS name players are legit cancer tho. You suck and your name isn’t clever.

This is why you make your static a pop culture reference to an obscure game and then use that to eventually get half the server hooked on your obscure referenced game

Touhou is probably the least obscure indie game ever made

Hell there's pre-existing touhou references dating back to like 2010-2011 in the code

While I'd personally like to see pop culture names go away, they probably won't.

I feel like something like this would address most issues that come up, and still allow enough flexibility to let people be a little tiny bit stupid.
1) A minimum amount of effort is expected in creating a name for your character: use something which you can reasonably expect other people to say when referring to you. Use your brain.
2) Using the name of a well-known real person, especially those associated with violence, may result in admin intervention. Taking a name which is obviously in bad faith is probably a bad idea.

Repeated violation of either of these tenets may lead to a ban.
