Suggestions for the Show Policy OOC verb

Hello spacemen of the 2d variety!

AnturK has reworked an old policy feature that will allow you to see policy relevant to your current character in game!
By hitting the "show policy" button in the OOC tab you get a popup that will list out anything added to the config file itself regarding the keywords applied to your character. Here's the general idea of how it works:
Spoiler:

Code: Select all

Possible keywords :
Job titles / Assigned roles (ghost spawners for example) : Assistant , Captain , Ash Walker
Mob types : /mob/living/simple_animal/hostile/carp
Antagonist types : /datum/antagonist/highlander
Species types : /datum/species/lizard
special keywords defined in _DEFINES/admin.dm

Example config:
{
    "Assistant" : "Don't kill everyone",
    "/datum/antagonist/highlander" : "<b>Kill everyone</b>",
"Ash Walker" : "Kill all spacemans"
}
As you can see we can cover a wide variety of things from jobs, to antagonist types, to specific species using keywords. With that being said, it would be easy for the head admins to overlook something that could use policy clarification around it so I'm opening this thread for input from the public as a whole. If there's a job, antag, species or other keyword that you think could benefit from having some in-game policy reminders, please feel free to post about it here.

An example of this for something like revs would be: "You are a team antagonist, team antagonists can do whatever they want as per lone antagonists, as long as it doesn’t harm their team."

Another example for mime would be: "You may break your vow of silence at any time, but this could result in an angry crew coming after your head."

If you have any suggestions for what might make a good policy reminder in game, please post it here. This is not the place to post ideas for new policies or policy clarification

Maybe reminding people to not steal if they don't want to get possibly killed for instigating a conflict, or for security to seek approval of the captain, warden or head of security when making executions >if< available.

Also remind clowns that if they take their shoes off they will prob get lynched.

Authorization has never been necessary, I ask for it in like 1/20 cases, no notes over it yet.

We should, at the very least, be providing links to the job’s wiki page and any guides that are necessary for them to function.

EDIT: There’s a PR up at the moment which will display this information when a player spawns in.

I like the idea of a simple verb/button players could use to remind themselves of specific policy for roles. The main benefit I see is to aid people using ghost roles as they tend to have their own policies based on the premise of the role. Admittedly those roles also have flavor-text on using them, but a policy verb would be more explicit on what is expected if the players chose to look it up. As Ned says, providing links might help though a short line on what is expected of the role or what it explicitly can do might help.

For all ghost roles in general it might be prudent to remind the player that this is NOT a continuation of their previous life and all knowledge from their previous life is lost followed by specifics of the roles. Lavaland golems start off neutral and generally well meaning but can defend themselves should others prove hostile. Ash Lizards can freely attack and kill outsiders but should remain on lavaland to keep the nest safe. Syndicate Base staff can kill anyone who isn't syndicate but must remain on their base, they can only blow the base if it is compromised. Ect.

It might be a bit of a task to go around all the side roles we have and picking apart our policy on them into a easy, quick shorthand of what is expected. Even the examples above are just quick and loose based on what I remember of their policy. If I wanted a proper go at it I'd have to pour over the threads again.

The source of this supposed "policy" you quote is Space law
Capital Crimes wrote:These crimes can result in Execution, Permanent Prison Time, Permanent Labor Camp Time, or Cyborgization.
Only the Captain, HoS, and Warden can authorize a Permanent Sentence.
Only the Captain can authorize an Execution or Forced Cyborgization.
admins have scoffed at players trying to justify their actions with space law before (see Istoprocent1's ban), so we should be able to ignore this as a simple suggestion too
instead, you should adjust your expectations to what is said here
Security Policy & Precedents wrote:2. Rule 4 of the main rules also apply to security. Security are not exceptions to the rule where non-antagonists can do anything they want, as per rule 4, to antagonists.
3. The 'act like an antag, get treated like one' part of Rule 4 of the main rules also apply to security. Stunning an officer repeatedly, using lethal or restricted weapons on them, disrupting the arrests or sentences of dangerous criminals, or damaging the brig, are examples of behaviour that may make you valid for security under Rule 4. Make sure players deserve it when you treat them as an antag, when in doubt, err on the side of caution as poor behaviour on the part of security will not be tolerated.
of course, it says to make sure players deserve it and that leads to administrative issues, but in my experience when you execute someone as an officer they were past the line of "acting like an antag" beyond any reasonable doubt, and of course, that's what we have admins to determine for anyways
tl;dr: There's no actual rule telling security officers not to execute antagonists, if they're up for execution, they've acted like an antag most probably

It's to avoid us headaches of someone ahelping because McNew Security Officer decided to kill someone for stealing the clown shoes. No, you won't get in trouble for not asking your boss but in servers like Event this would help prevent issues of new players making bad decisions.

This is a very interesting one

Solo antagonists and metagrudging: Solo antagonists can metagrudge as long as they are not rolling for it specifically to do so, and killing someone who killed you in a previous life as a ghost role antag is bad.

Huh. But on the safer side, I think this one needs to be made more prominent.

Organizing mass grief as security or a head: Do not organize mass grief when you are in control of the security force.

We all know how condoms like to get.

Add the "this is a critical role" to all heads of staff, ned

Security roles should have at least a basic outline of security precedent from the rules page.

Should also remind detective players it's preferred they play detective and not a red shirt with a revolver.

A few suggestions for sec:
-Fines exist
-Perma exists
-You can use gulag instead of brigging
-Don't run around with your 'tools" in hand
-Ask first, shoot later
-Be humane (when convict asks for lawyer get a lawyer, set brig times etc...)
-Do not use confiscated antag items (traitor weapons wizard things etc....)
-Don't leave brig as warden

it's one of those things that's allowed but you're just a fundamentally bad person for doing it

Good luck trying to get fines out of assistant mains that cannot even afford to buy Insulated Gloves out of the vendomat.
Tarchonvaagh wrote: -Perma exists
When one can break out of the perma without any help, then it kinda ain't perma. Also metafriends exist. In any case you have to catch the guy all over again and this is not fun gameplay.
Tarchonvaagh wrote: -You can use gulag instead of brigging
You can, if you happen to have Warden's access or above. Normal sec cannot set points nor use the gulag teleporter.
Tarchonvaagh wrote: -Don't run around with your 'tools" in hand
This is good advice.
Tarchonvaagh wrote: -Ask first, shoot later
Cuff first, talk later, unless you are into observing the round instead being able to participate in it 9 out of 10 times.
Tarchonvaagh wrote: -Be humane (when convict asks for lawyer get a lawyer, set brig times etc...)
Reasonable advice. Setting brig timers is a must.

Wat.
Tarchonvaagh wrote: -Don't leave brig as warden
Depends on the situation. Security should work as a team and helping out other members of the security should be the priority.
