Put Sybil (back) on the hub?

Now here me out.

So at one point Basil was put onto the hub to try to kick start its dying server. Whilst this worked in the short term and we managed to keep basil tamed to its unwritten style, in the long run its kinda shifted style. Now of course (IIRC) its off the hub now. However in my eyes we should still have one server on the Hub, it keeps things fresh with new players, it allows people to reconnect when they dont really know of the website or another way, and mostly the hub attracts more of the "gamey" style players from the hub.

In my eyes Sybil has always been a little more lax on the rules, things get let slide for the sakes of a meme or a joke, or frankly because they are robust AF. In my mind this makes it the ideal server for the hub. We then have, as we did originally, a server "Hidden" for the more regular, more RP orientated /tg/er.

Sybil is technically on the hub.

The issue is a byond bug that makes this not work after the server crashes and reboots but lummox hasn't been able to reproduce it. every time the server is started fresh i have to manually remove it from the hub and re-add it

I really should patch around it.

I am almost positive you wouldn't be banned right now if you played on Sibyl as opposed to Basil.

Aside from that, you can look at round length between the two and notice that they are very different. There's no way both have the same playstyles when their roundlengths are ~ an hour difference.

This ALSO makes it sorta difficult to add balance-heavy features. Something that is meant for shorter rounds [see sybil] may very quickly be OP for basil, to which the flip of that is sybil may never see a feature because it's meant for longer rounds [particularly station goals].

So I don't think it's fair to say adminbus is trying to divide the servers when they're just different. If anything, it's the players that set up this dichotomy [which I guess includes admins].

Bagil and Sybil are indistinguishable now. Anyone trying to play up differences between them is just being delusional.

Bagils days of being a creepy metafriend hive with lots of "RP" is long dead. Whatever you guys did to fuck up Sybil last year and drive the players to Bagil, between that and both servers having hub pubbies, blurred any lines that were left between the servers.

Having said that, the hub is a pretty big deal, its like +20-30 players, but most of those players are just clueless about our rules, the game, or the map, and it generally deteriorates round quality. Now if the choice is between ded server and hub, take the hub, once you've got a healthy population there's no reason to have a constant influx of tourists shitting up rounds. When Bagil was the hub server last year and Sybil was the veteran's territory, you saw a huge difference in player quality. Bagil would see legitimate accidental engine releases 4-5 rounds in a row.

Personally I'd prefer our servers specialize a little, with one as the pubbie playground and the other for players looking for more of a challenge. There really isn't much of a benefit to trying to make Bagil/Sybil indistinguishable.
