I know they have to become a trial admin first and then you become an admim and then can be voted for head admin but I'm not sure how one becomes a trial admin. Is there an application? A nomination? Are new trial admins only accepted at certain times?

iirc this is always the thing in most cases, there's only a handful of exceptions from what i can see.
Actually, what generally happens is we promote an admin trainer, they will promote/review one, maybe a couple groups of new mins of basically anyone that asks, the especially stupid ones manage to lose it early on and the rest slip through the cracks and get trial when the trainer inevitably gets burnt out playing daycare and gives up after two weeks. Then no one else feels like going through the training process so all applicants just get denied til the admin situation gets bad and we desperately need more again.

not adminning people solely because they ask is stupid, and arguing that we would have to make "EVERYONE" who asked to be admin an admin is a stupid argument and you should feel bad.

Because most people who ask have negative history or no history. It's better to look for talent and scout as usually most who ask aren't the best choices.

it's not in and of itself bad to ask, but 99.999999999% of the time the person who is asking is not admin material, like i've already said. with history like that it makes me automatically suspicious, but yeah if you indicate that you're serious and your record checks out and we need an admin in your time slot and adminbus has no beef, then yeah you're probably good.

if you're a potential candidate without any direct contact, it's basically because you have a lot of positive/neutral presence in game. Dregonsteps (IC as Fesa Semenov) is like this at the moment, since I always always always see them just observing in deadchat which is what admins do anyways. (i asked them if they wanted admin and they turned me down.) another example would be Reed Glover, who IIRC was offered admin but turned it down.
People who tend to idle in deadchat, or who do low key roles like Reed, tend to not want responsibilities, hence why they are in those low key positions.
Admins are like Nuke Op mech pilots. The person asking to be the mech pilot should be the last person who should pilot the mech.

Kind of a siderail, but why are EUmins/non-US mins so rare as to be worth noting as being particularly desired? From what I've seen from chatting to people the servers have a decent EU playerbase, and laws of statistics would dictate that atleast some of these people are un-shit enough to get trialled.

Honestly just play lots, be active in the community, then ask an admin trainer to candidate you for a few rounds. Get shown the ropes and see how it goes.

Problem is more headmins/GMs/Trainers being about on those hours to get new EUmins in for teaching. We one one person from EU being candidated right now and that's more the issue. The admin team has a few UK and EUmins, but most are inactive or semi-active right now.
Tbh, my first server was hate so if I was admin 99.9% of ahelp replies would be along the lines of "suck it up, butterfuck" and make stupid fucking events every round
