Seriously? I got noted? Before I was even contacted, my name was changed. I didn't expect wizard, so when asked for a name, I just put something down, and I get recommended for a ban the next time my name is 'lame'? I'm trying to be chill about this, but that is just fucking stupid.

It's important to keep notes like this so that if you choose an inappropriate name in the future we know that it wasn't a one off.

I don't think the last bit about the ban was needed unless they had repeatedly chosen terrible wizard names, which looking at the notes doesn't seem to be the case?

Deliberately shitty wizard names like "HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA" are the TC trade of the wizard role. While it seems like two in every three wizards literally does have a name like "Hey Player Reading this Name Right Now am I Brea", I'm sure there's at least a handful of players who aren't going to play wizard any time in the near future who won't fuck the role up on the first step. There's already a naming convention in place, and I'm tired of seeing this trash.

for traditions sake can admins instead ask players to come up with a different name if they feel the name isn't suitable at all e.g. hahahahahahaha and keep the warnings for truly, truly awful xbox-gamertag tier names. Obviously this is somewhat subjective but a request for a name change is low-impact enough. Wizard names are traditionally silly so admin intervention should be quite rare.

This is what we did when I was admin, when did this stop being policy?

It's worth noting that this isn't out of the blue they do have multiple warnings for bad names.

While that is true, that's not why he said he did it (also, I counted 2 notes from the same day because after my first name was rejected, I made a couple other stupid ones as a joke. Didn't see any other notes). It was because he's "tired of seeing this trash" and not because my arguable breach of naming policy was
unusually egregious or related to my previous notes at all. Secondly, I was a wizard, and like everyone else I assumed naming rules for them were almost non-existent. Third, almost none of the names I've been bitched out/noted for were technically against the rules, they were just annoying (also, way before the newer naming policy). Sure, I named myself something stupid as a wizard which almost everyone does (and I think coming down hard on someone just because you are annoyed with similar behavior from other players is fucking stupid) but, I really don't see how a note was warranted in this case, and definitely not one that recommends a job ban. Just to be clear, my only real interest in this issue is getting the note removed/amended. I'm not here to start a discussion of wizard naming policy, I just think the note was unnessecary.

If we're going to start policing wizard names then whatever, but I think it would be nice if players got notified of this change instead of us pretending like they should have known about it and give them the equivalent of an admin black mark for something they couldn't have possibly been aware of, as even admins (see: at least me) didn't know it existed.

I said this at the time, or in a similar case (don't remember if it's the same wiz) but my bar for clown and wizard names is A) whether it is just stupidly line-crossingly offensive B) whether it is a thing that someone could plausibly say. So HAHAHAHAHAHAHA is fine, XD LMAO WIZ666_NOSCOPE_:D not so much.

IcePacks hasn't touched this in a few days so I'm going to go ahead and say that this wasn't a notable thing and remove it myself. Resolved
