[MortoSasye] KanjiDX - Note Appeal

Post by KanjiDX » #459452

Byond account and character name: KanjiDX and Orion OG
Banning admin: MortoSasye
Ban type (What are you banned from?): Not a ban, it's a note.

Ban reason and length: I typed in OOC chat, "Nar'sie is a girl". I got an admin note that says, "IC in OOC - After Nar'Sie appeared on a cult round, mentioned them in ooc before round end almost inmediately: OOC: KanjiDX: nar'sie is a girl."
Time ban was placed (including time zone): around 21:45 CST 12/4/2018
Server you were playing when banned (Sybil or Bagil): Bagil
Your side of the story: I don't believe my message contained any IC information, it's just mentioning a fact. Nobody could use the information in any way to gain any knowledge about the round at hand.
Why you think the note should be removed: I think this note was heavy-handed. It doesn't reflect on my quality as a member of the /tg/station community and I'm not interested in meta-gaming or otherwise ruining rounds for people.

Rule 3.
Do not say in character (IC) things in the out of character (OOC) chat channel.
Do not say OOC things in IC either. There is an exception for OOC in IC where terms like 'clickdrag X to Y, or look for the tab' is used to help a player.

Narsie is an in character thing, it happens in the game, within the context of a round, Narsie's gender then, is an IC thing.

More importantly

Rule 3 Precedents.
Excessively OOC names fall under rule 3. Make a minimum effort to have your name fit in a setting involving a wacky space station in the future. A firstname lastname minimum is required and no honorifics are allowed. Nicknames in the middle are ok. Admins may get involved if your name is dumb and can approve or disallow names at their discretion while in-game.
References to the current round, even if vague; is still considered being IC in OOC.

References to the current round, even if vague, are still considered being IC in OOC, hence your note for mentioning narsie in the round in which narsie had spawned, had it been a non cult round, or narsie had not yet spawned, you probably would have got away with it.

It wasn't a reference to the current round. The statement happenstance occurred on a round where Nar'sie was present, but it offered no in-game information relevant to the round at hand. It also happened seconds before the round ended, after the results of the round had been concluded. Nar'sie was already on the screen, nothing anybody said mattered after that point. I still don't believe my behavior constitutes having a permanent negative note on my profile in this instance.

The cutoff is the round end report. Until that pops up all rules are 100% in effect. 2s before the report is still mid round. There has to be a hard limit or people would say "well if 2s is ok what about 5? what about 10?"

A note like that is only going to be relevant to admins if you do this repeatedly

Exactly. Normally, I personally wouldn't note someone about it: but it's still breaking a rule. If you encourage it, the line between okay and IC in OOC will get so blurry there'll be a lot of grey areas.

So Rule 3 was properly used: referencing the round even vaguely is IC in OOC. I will agree that this isnt exactly awful nor ruined anyone's round, but it's something that, as admins, we can't encourage. It's a hard limit.

And, yes, no admin will look at that note and think you're the worst because of it. Notes are references for the future, not punishments.

Seconds after Nar'sie rose, you made your comment in OOC, "nar'sie is a girl". This is a reference to the current round, no matter which way you try to spin it.
It does not matter that this was close to round-end. All rules are fully in effect until the round ends.
I'm closing this, as it's a note appeal that falls into neither of the two categories defined here: https://tgstation13.org/phpBB/viewtopic.php?f=7&t=13422.
