Your side of the story: The note itself leaves out a considerable amount of context to what actually lead to this situation occurring. It's more than just that they stunned me and the mime, but that they seemed to actually be using it to goad people using the stun as a bait into fighting them and getting killed. They specifically attacked the mime with their own spear while we were both observing the lawyer being shot down by the detective for some reason. I was around just because I might be asked to heal the lawyer as a paramedic. The stun was sudden but given it was ranged and had no origin, I basically had to conclude they were responsible, and I had in fact implanted the nanites because the viro had been the one to make them. Or I assume so anyway. So this person had sabotaged otherwise healthy nanites. That's basically two counts of active grief and antagonistic behaviour.
As a result, I fled and used my paramedic access to get into the nanite chamber and deactivate the nanites neural shock program while retaining the rest of the programs. The mime and Edgar Pope, who was janitor that round, arrived soon after, so I imagine the mime told them the same thing, as I had told the mime I already knew what the scientist was doing to us. I told them I already disabled it and we left it at that. I had also told the virologist the situation while he was getting genetic upgrades in the room next door. It was delta station. He was surprised and set about reprogramming them a little more. He could have been in on it, but given nothing came of it I could only assume it was only the scientist actively using the nanites maliciously, and I had no evidence to the contrary so I trusted he was genuinely surprised.
I tried to locate an officer to tell them what was happening, and found John Irish. He seemed more preoccupied killing a traitor roboticist and his emagged borg, so I left him to his business after trying to get his attention a few times, and then I pulled the arm mounted laser rifle out of the roboticist and went and had it implanted with a med doctor. Because lasers are cool, and I have reasonable deniability about this antag weapon given security can see my role. I mean, they could kill me for it still, but at least I'll have the moral upper hand. And it's what I get for having an antag weapon.
I tried telling the captain over PDA about the situation and also didn't receive a response.
And later I spotted them in departures and confronted them. I asked them why they did it, to which they responded that they didn't and they were seemingly lying to me. They then ran. I chased, ran into the HoS along the way. I asked him to follow me, told him the scientist had rigged the nanites. No response. I went to the nanite room.
Now, if you know anything about nanites, they 're fucking scary. Sabotaging them isn't just a mild inconvenience. They could hook up a precision explosion into the nanites to take me out then and there. And since they had ran to the cloud console, I could only assume they were about to do exactly that. Given the HoS hadn't followed, I knew I was probably going to die or the whole station was about to die if they chose to detonate all the nanites people had, and a lot of people had nanites. And it could come in any second. So I shot them dead with the arm laser.
In every instance, I gave them a chance to come clean, tried to inform authorities and found myself the only person who could deal with someone actively being malicious with the nanites that the whole station had taken. I resolved the problem in a non-aggressive way initially and tried to diplomacy with them. When that proved unsuccessful, I just did the logical thing and took them out. If they were an antagonist, I took steps to be careful about lings. I put them to gunpoint as a corpse and tied them while I searched their stuff. If they were a ling waiting for me to leave, I left it at that because I didn't want to bother with gibbing them, the shuttle was here. But if they were a traitor, I wasn't reviving them either way, so I just left. I didn't find anything in their bag, so I had no idea either way. But I felt the matter was settled and escalation followed. A stun is a lethal attack, and already liable for me to beat him up by escalation.
But I had taken steps to avoid having to deal with it directly myself with aggression and tried to talk. He was right at that console when I had told him I disabled his stun nanites. There is nothing more damning than running to your killing tool when confronted about the fact.
I'm then immediately messaged by Fatal. Unfortunately while they were messaging me, a mouse appeared in our kitchen and scared our roommate. I was a little absent for most of the remaining messages, but I tried to convey as quickly as I could my position and the issue with leaving them to just mess with the nanites further.
Also, I need to go into town to get a mouse trap. I hate mice but I hate hurting animals. It's been storming here and it probably wandered in and I feel bad for it.
Please leave a like and comment in the section below and a big F for the mouse. It is a big anxiety moment.
Why you think you should be unbanned: The note is deceptive as hell, leaves me looking like some frothing validhunter when In fact I took steps to try and get them to fess up and try and let the actual roles responsible for this to deal with the problem, and when left without a choice I put them down. Is this what standing your ground means?
I don't know how talking to someone and asking them why they rigged my nanites with a weapon is overescalation, but there you go. Maybe I should have taken the nanite breakdown bomb and lived with it because then it's overescalation for sure given I didn't touch them at all other then to try and get them off the mime they were deliberately baiting. I already was bombed by someone this very same round in an act of grief so you know I was already on alert for this shit given I lived from that situation by the skin of my teeth and nearly overdosing on aiuri.
I basically would prefer the note to either recognize the situation leading up to it at minimum but given I don't even consider this to be noteworthy in the first place, I'd prefer removal.
