[Omega_DarkPotato] Nyarlathotepx - Bomb

Post by BasedSneed445 » #615883

BYOND account: Nyarlathotepx
Character name: Pooky
Ban type: Server
Ban length: 1 week
Ban reason: Detonated a TTV in cargo as a non-antagonist via searching for the signal with a remote signaller. One kill, cargo remained destroyed, and had a past history of non-antagonism.
Time ban was placed: 2021 10 03, 5:54:24
Server you were playing on when banned: Sybil
Round ID in which ban was placed: 170645
Your side of the story: I see someone running around the halls holding a bomb, upon seeing this I go to auxilliary tool storage and get a remote signalling device and start pinging numbers descending from 30. The bomb detonates and I didnt see the aftermath but becausr there was only one kill I assume it was the scientist carrying the bomb. I didnt make the bomb or plant it. Anyway I hear the explosion and then I get bwoinked.
Why you think you should be unbanned: I was under the impression that this wasnt a bannable offence because of this section of the toxins guide on the wiki "Important Note about Remote Signaling Devices
Some jokers like to randomly signal the default frequencies of these devices so before you attach one to a bomb you'll want to open its control panel by using it in your hand and change the frequency and/or code so that you don't get a nasty surprise." I didn't expect the bomb to be a maxcap or for the code to be a single digit away from the default code of 30. Also if you look at my "past history of non-antagonism" youll find that both of those bans were removed and the admins stated I didnt have a history of non antagonism. If this ban is still ruled as valid I think one week is excessive when I compare it to how I was banned for a shorter time for supposedly doing things worse than this in the past.
Anything else we should know: There might be some errors in the formatting of this appeal because statbus is down.

Hi, thanks for the appeal!
Before getting into the meat of this, I'd like to clear up the minor mistake in the ban reason - you have a past history of self-antagonism, not non-antagonism.
Although you ARE right in that you've gotten both bans removed due to the appeal of the first, that second ban that became a note is what I'm using now as precedent of self-antagonism.

The main problem in this case is the fact that you purposefully searched for the code to detonate that bomb with. If it had been on the default signal, (same code, same frequency) you'd be off the hook and it would've been the scientist's fault. But as per your own admission in both this appeal and in the ticket (Relevant information posted from raw-logs, with the understanding that it's relevant to current appeal)

Code: Select all

05:27:30: Ticket Opened by-omegadarkpotato: Heya, do you have a moment? Wondering about the remote signalling device you just used.
05:27:45: Reply from-nyarlathotepx: Yeah it triggered that bomb didnt it
05:28:11: Reply from-omegadarkpotato: That it did! Were you aware that this would happen, and who did you get it from?
05:29:07: Reply from-nyarlathotepx: Ok i saw a guy running around with a bomb, with a signaller attatched so i started pinging signals a device, it was in auxiliary tool storage i think.
05:29:34: Reply from-omegadarkpotato: So you just used a signaller to start pinging random signals?
05:29:55: Reply from-nyarlathotepx: yeah I just went down from 30 on one and went up on the other
You went searching with signallers to find this code. Although lastsignallers is not saved to TG's data, my trainer, mothblocks, and I can all attest to the viewing of the lastsignallers log - there was quite the process involved in trying to find this code for the detonation, not just changing one number and landing on the right combination.
Searching to find a code to detonate a bomb is a fairly clear-cut case of attempting (and succeeding) to detonate a bomb as a non-antagonist, which is why this ban was placed.

In terms of duration, normally one kill translates to one day. Destruction of cargo and dropping the firelocks for the rest of the round factored in a bit, but the major part here was that you do have that history - Wesoda's ban-turned-note is not one that you appealed, and just one that he removed after you appealed your first. However, because it's still staying on as a note (and a note that's from just two weeks ago!) it's relevant to this case.

Self-antagging combined with the above offense is what's getting you this week ban - and after some advice, I'm not particularly inclined to reduce the duration of this ban. In the future, please consider the consequences of your actions while as a non-antagonist - searching for the code to detonate a TTV will result in its detonation if you find the right one, and generally speaking, blowing up a maxcap anywhere without good reason to do so as a non-antagonist is a sure-fire way to a note or ban.

If you have any further questions, feel free to put them in this thread, but I'll be denying this appeal.
The headmins can overturn this, and should you like another eye on this case I'd be willing to notify them for you.

Because signalers are tgui, it's under tgui.log, albeit in a bit of a convoluted form.
