Headadmins have no influence on the code repo
I just want to make this absolutely clear since people seem to be in some confusion and are asking headmins code related questions.
The repository is entirely run separately from the server, Headmins have no more power than others, however, in all cases a maintainer will listen to their opinion and grant it more weight than a normal player.
You'd be better to ask how they intend to work more closely with the maintainers than how they intend to actually change code.

Re: Headadmins have no influence on the code repo
In light of this, and in conjunction with the ruling from the last election with regards to "coding favors", can we just ban codebase/coding talk in candidate threads entirely? I can't think of any relevance and it just opens the gateway to behavior that is, to quote Kor, disingenuous and unfair to non-coding candidates.

Re: Headadmins have no influence on the code repo
Discussing how head admins intend to handle their relationship with the code repo is a fair point of discussion and should be allowed.
The head admins do have some influence over the code due to their position as the head honcho of the server, and that they can influence the game via changing configs which can provoke code changes.

Re: Headadmins have no influence on the code repo
If the coders truly want to go against head admin desires they can do so, I'm aware of this due to personal experience

Re: Headadmins have no influence on the code repo
There's no need to debate what oranges already explained perfectly well in the OP
" however, in all cases a maintainer will listen to their opinion and grant it more weight than a normal player."
More weight than a normal player is literally what they get, it's not a guarantee you'll get your way kind of thing.
Normal admins get this too to some degree, but mostly relating to logging/abuse.

It's probably the reverse.oranges wrote:grant it more weight than a normal player.
People who the maintainers respect are likely to become headmins.
You're not gonna start merging every Goof PR just because he wears a headmin cap.

Re: Headadmins have no influence on the code repo
If you control what code goes into the server.
And the person that determines if you can or can't go on the server to use that code says he wants you to add a certain string of code.
Do you add the code or do you get banned from playing on the server?

The answer is, you get banned. Maintainers do not bow to anyone but their headcoder.

I could give a damn about your neutrality if it went both ways and you respected headmin decisions instead of still maintaining the potential to undermine them like in the secborg config debacle.

And they got permabanned for what they did as headmin, so trying to influence the code as they did is ill advised.

Re: Headadmins have no influence on the code repo
I don't see why you have to jump to that extreme when that doesn't seem necessary. If an admin wants to run on a platform of 'code favors,' even if it's not within an admin's authority to make code requests, it's possible that an admin, someone intimately familiar with the games inner workings and functions could study the code and make their own contributions, as well as work with the code base to make changes by relaying experiences during rounds or reporting bugs received from ahelps, etc.Arianya wrote:In light of this, and in conjunction with the ruling from the last election with regards to "coding favors", can we just ban codebase/coding talk in candidate threads entirely? Re: Headadmins have no influence on the code repo
running on that platform makes no sense because being a headadmin doesn't grant you extra ability to get your changes merged, it's deceitful to promise code changes to the playerbase that you can't deliver upon without headcoder support.
