The results were taken from AtlantaNed's statbus, from this link: https://sb.atlantaned.space/polls/208.
Please use this thread as a place to discuss the results.

Kierany9, the author of the gamemode, has stated that he has been working hard to fix the issues with the gamemode.
Please contribute any of your code or balance-related suggestions to the Assimilation feedback thread, found here.

Yeah, I seriously thought the mode would get shitcanned. I can't remember a single instance of anybody going "nice, Hivemind" or saying that they like it.

I'd be lying if I said the result didn't surprise me, but it doesn't surprise me to see a very clear divide in forum stated opinion vs ingame opinion. We've seen this in the past with things like extended that get a lot of complaints on the forums but was the 4th most popular mode at the time of last overall gamemode poll.

I think that a big part of this is Kierany9 actively maintaining the gamemode and listening to feedback from players. Big props to him for sticking around after completing the bounty.

The funny thing is, I think most people who play the game regularly believe it is a strongly disliked gamemode as well. I've seen just as much if not more complaining about it ingame compared to the forums, and nobody defending it there either.

As Denton says, Kierany's devotion to improving the game mode and accepting feedback on it positively does far more for its' standing in this poll. Furthermore, the wording of the poll also contributes to this. The easy comparison, Clock Cult, scored lowest in a poll ranking all game modes, and the developer, Xhuis, gave up on it, and for this it was removed. It's a wholly different circumstance.

I think it's easy to fall into confirmation bias/"loud" factor. People with a negative impression are more moved to complain and people who like the mode are not necessarily moved to defend it: Their enjoyment of the mode is not diminished or changed because RoboJon32 doesn't like it.

If 3 people are complaining in OOC out of a server of 60 about a mode then...

Poll is the most reliable metric, anyway.

i didn't have high hopes for hivemind in its original incarnation with the initial response and I didn't think this vote would go well either despite the gamemode being vastly improved and pretty decent in general.

The results have convinced me that all the whiners are over-exaggerating or just have a hard time accepting that things can change.

Something important that I think everyone should consider when lots of people say something is bad is that there will never be an equal amount of people randomly making posts about it being an epic and cool gamemode, and will probably be content staying off the forums and playing the game. I'm pretty sure half the people that think hivemind is bad only think its bad because people say it is.

Daily reminder to form your own opinion on new stuff, you're allowed to like stuff that other people are bashing.

Why couldn’t we have a poll like this for gang and shadowling? At least those don’t gain power by standing still.

The polls would've likley would've gone the same way for those gamemodes as long as they were still being maintained. People don't mind bad gamemodes unless they suck complete donkey balls. Clock cult and shadowling weren't just magically disliked, they reached the end of their lifespan when they stopped being maintained while being unpopular and they got removed as a result. It's likley hivemind has most people hoping that it'll improve from its current playstyle with changes(which I'm on board with!) but good luck to Kierany avoiding becoming clock cult 2.0.

unless you were saying "Why didnt we poll improve dont remove on an unmaintained feature" and that's because most maintainers aren't interested in cleaning up doodoo

when you do a poll you get results that are different than when you just listen for complaints, because people who like things dont usually speak out about it unless you ask them.
