Low Rule Day

Alright nerds. Some people have complained they need a masters in mental health law to understand our ruleset so let's try a little experiment.

By which I mean I'm doing a thing and you just get to go along for the ride.

One day with the rules stripped back to the bare minimum:

1. Don't use outside information (Metacommunication, using player, gamemode or antag knowledge excessively etc.)
2. Don't murder people without a decent reason
3. Don't be a dick outside of roleplay
4. Don't ERP
5. If you start shit and get fucked up you can't adminhelp when it comes back around.
6. No IC in OOC or OOC in IC
7. Silicons must follow their laws. Be prepared to justify yourself by them if you act like a dick.

For this day everything will be a lot more lax. Not anarchy but if someone isn't breaking one of those rules, you deal with it ICly. Same goes for security. Short of random murder if people are being cunts just openly beat them to death, then enjoy the wrath of an unhinged asimov AI. Or a greytide mob.

Bans handed out for anything that closely resembles the above rules will be treated normally.
Bans handed out for grey areas further from these rules will max out at 24 hours so you'll only really miss the rest of the show.

I reckon I'll run this day next week.

If the posted guidelines are adhered to at all I imagine you'd cop a dayban from Drone/pAI/whatever if someone ahelped it.

Depends on the severity of the law infraction like always. From recent examples, a drone crowbarring up some floor tiles that a human was laying down to fix the wire underneath will be given a friendly warning, while a drone that's setting up a singulo beacon bought from the tator pda of it's previous life will be given a quick drone perma.

This is basically just a generalized version of our current rules so I don't imagine it will be that different.

If it's no different then hooray we just ditched several dozen meaningless rules that everyone was smart enough to adhere to anyway.

I wish this was only dropping several dozen rules. Boiling silicoln policy down to "Don't be an asshole; if you're an asshole, better type fast when the Man comes calling" is inspired.

What about rule 0?

Literally nothing has changed about the rules apart from the dollar-store-receipt-for-a-pack-of-gum Silicon Policy section, and the specific roleplay policies.

I still think we should keep the braindead heads thing though for that though I don't expect it to be much of a problem for a 24 hour thing.

The difficulty with this is that the relies on admin judgment. By which I mean its up to the admin to read what they take from the rules. In the past people have been... unaccepting of admins rulings (hence why old law 0 is rarely called).

Also is rule 0 still in action on this day?

I assume rape falls under ERP?

Also I assume this means greytiding is valid if you're an assistant? As it loosely falls under roleplay for that job role (its what people have come to expect) and whilst it is being a dick it ISN'T outside of roleplay.

These are the only rules I follow. I wasn't aware there were more rules.

Well you're already doing better than a lot of players at least.

You could probably cut it down even further,

So basically:

Rule #1: Don't be a dick.

Even that is hard for some people.

Pretty much this. the other policies are pretty much there so we don't have to use rule 0 on everything.

I do like the idea in general though. Rule 1 only day would be great.

But it's also basically what the old rules were, as long as you could logically present that your actions fitted your law set you were fine

One question,
Who does this change really benefit?

People that remember when the game was a game where people were jerks to each other and we accepted that because that was the name of the game.

If it's successful, everyone.

Implementing superlegalism hasn't worked. In trying to tie down shitters we've just defined legal areas of shittery. For admins this ruleset means they can focus on the simple question of "Is this person incompetent, an asshole or innocent?" and just deal with intent instead of trying to be wannabe lawyers.

For players, it's fewer rules to follow, more freedom to do fun things and hopefully less fear of using the game to get back at people fucking with you in the game. By extension the game will probably get a little more lethal too which is what people want. Now when someone kills someone else you won't be immediately sure they are an antag. They might have just dunked a guy annoying them or something.

It's a trial run and a risky idea. Some of the admins who joined and 'grew up' with this system may not like it but I think players and admins alike just need to toughen up a bit. Players need to accept that the admins probably know best and that they should adminhelp less and toolbox people who annoy them more, and admins need to accept that they'll have to defend their decisions without pointing to pieces of a ridiculous legal document but instead with a basic discussion deciding whether the player is shit, incompetent or misunderstood.

See this is why we need to remove admin feedback and complaints! We're GREAT at making sure other people don't have fun! :V

Wow, I'm so used to not liking sticky's policy I don't even know what to say about it now that he's summed up my biggest discontent with the policies thus far, and a decent workable solution for them.

Cheers brah, You're trying and that's awesome.

This is what our ruleset started out as. The reason why it's the bloated mass it is today is because people kept toeing The Line, asking where The Line was, and complaining that The Line was too vague, even though everyone with half a brain cell can figure out rules like these.

Re: Low Rule Day

No the problem was that people took the don't be a dick rule to mean everyone needs to be nice to each other, whilst completely ignoring the don't be a cry baby rule.
Then more and more rules got added to that and the above problem became more and more pronounced as the bullied kids become server police and there was nothing to stop them adding more hand holding rules.

I said probably. Players have a very slim view of what's going on. An admin is an observing third party not involved in the conflict with full access to almost any kind of log they need. Admin's make mistakes by being sloppy or getting overwhelmed and confused by all that info sometimes but it's still true that admins probably know more about the situation than anyone else involved.
