Remove Wizard?

Okay, so basically wizard creates a huge and unnecessary clusterfuck of murder and it is a pain in the ass for players who get dunked and a pain in the ass for admins who have to deal with it.

the real issue with wizard is how abusable and stackable the escape spells are

if you just made wizard a master of CC with icewalls/firewalls/fireball/whatever spells it would be ok, but as it is most of them spam escape spells and it's just 30 minutes of chasing around some asshole with 3 teleports until someone lands a lucky baton and he dies.

It diverges from the bland base mechanics that rule things like traitor and can be chaotic or fun. It is a good mode compared to overly conservative designs like the lings.

You are literally describing the intended function of the round.

All I can say is that if this was brought on by a multidimensional sword round, I agree that thing is crazy bananas and probably is a nightmare to administrate. Beyond that however I can't even parse what the problem is here.

The biggest no of my ss13 career on this one!

Edit: to be clear here are some wizard things maybe overly strong? Sure! But you don't throw the wizard baby out with the enchanted bathwater! If you think specific things are OP horseshit or impossible to administrate, just say so!

I agree with incoming.

It's fun because it's chaotic.
It's a pain in everyone's ass because it's chaotic.

I would hate to see wizard get removed but maybe we do need some changes to his abilities, just to bring some in line/make them a little more forgiving for both wizards and non-wizards.

here's an idea i just ass-pulled that's probably poor thought-out:
1. wizard dies
2. instead of round ending, crew are given a warning from Centcom that another wizard will arrive shortly
3. new wizard chosen from pool of dead ghosts
4. x minute grace period during which ghosts are allowed to respawn as randomised crewmembers (you can choose between your old job or a new one, which would free your old job slot for someone else)
5. wizard spends the grace period prepping/waiting in the den
6. wizard arrives
7. rinse and repeat until crew call the shuttle

this gives more people a chance to play a wizard, and means job progress isn't lost after wizard death, which means wizard rounds aren't considered "forfeit job, validhunt" rounds by the crew

I can tell you based on mulligan experiences and ragin mages experiences that the crew will just call the shuttle the moment they can and run away.

Don't think it needs to be removed, but holy hell is it over-weighted on Sybil. At a whopping 12.8%, it's second only to traitor, which makes it wayyy too common for such a memey roundtype.

Did I accidentally go to the Baystation forum by mistake?

I personally think Wizard is one of our good game modes. The only problems with it are new players fireballing themselves 30 seconds into the round and "stealth" wizards that spend one hour screwing around with mindswap.

I am currently writing the mother of all git gud wizard documents. This may be helpful to the newbies.

Though I maintain watching wizard die to the unrestrained use of fireballs is hilarious.

The mode people should be griping about is Double Agent, which is pretty much just Summon Guns but with less fun for the crew

Being serious I hope this is not a sign of a slowly changing trend on the server of people, both players and those in a position of power, want to move away from chaotic and more exciting rounds into mundane 'controlled' rounds.

I dunno, some of the escape methods maybe could use work, they haven't changed much from the old ways, and back then you could pspray their clothes off to force them to stay in place and get wrecked, and now they got swap mind and all that.

and that cultist knockoff one I've seen around is pretty bogus. Not OP, but confusing at least.

And I'm still not a fan of the possessed grilles and vending machines being so spammable, though it's apparently a costly affair.


Though keep in mind I might be way off base here as I haven't been a wizard in a disgusting amount of time (Sec just got antag role rolls recentlyish)

Wizards are what make ss13, well ss13.
That and the horrible controls, shitty sprites and gay drama.

The funniest kind of wizard is the one who fucks up but doesn't die, and keeps coming back, getting his shit pushed in, then scampering off to somewhere else to try again, over and over, until he either gets worn down or succeeds against the odds.

lets be honest the best wizard duo was me and sawrge.

i, the master grand wizard, ordered a bluespace apprentice, i told him to do my objective whilst i went to deal with the crew.

i teleported into the morgue, grabbed the captain, began to strangle her whilst the horrified crew looked in dispair and tried to break into the chaplains office. As they opened the door I blink STRAIGHT INTO THE WALL, THEY TASE ME AND HARM BATTON ME TO DEATH.
ROUND FUCKING OVER SAWRGE HAD MY OBJECTIVE. I WAS BESTED BY MY OWN APPRENTICE.


i still cry about this to this day.

Wizard has OP abilities a few of them solo antag kinda needs em. A lot of lack luster choices you could make too many of the spells are pretty weak.

Someone on singulo posted a suggestion that if a wizard round lasts longer than 45 minutes then the game creates a new antag called the wizard hunter. This guy has gear that is designed to specfically win in a 1 v 1 fight against a wizard and their objective is to hunt down the wizard, of which the hunter has a tracker that points to the wizard, and kill them. Thus incentivsing wizards to not drag things on forever.

This is precisely like proposing the removal of the clown. Actually Goon did that and they're still SS13... this is like proposing we remove the act of murdering other players itself, or the ability to change the pre-set architecture or destroy it.

Do you even back to back wizard rounds with the same person as the wizard?

Cult is cult and rev is being phased out for gang because fun is not allowed.
