Longbowman is King of Basil

Longbowman came in close 2nd in the player vote, and is incredibly popular on Basil. He likes the players, the players there like him, and he knows better how that part of the community runs than any of our current headmins.

For that reason I am promoting him to King Of Basil, to be the psuedo-headmin/Game Master in charge of running things there (having his say over bans, telling filthy sybil admins to fuck off if they start breaking things, recruiting admins from basil who will actually play on basil, experimenting with the rulesets, etc).

Of course since I am mad with power I reserve the right to end this experiment whenever, but I have faith in Longbowman to run things well there (he already more or less does!).

So congrats Longbowman.

I'm not sure I understand why you're treating the servers as functionally seperate.

The seperation between Basil and Sybil is absolute. I am tired of reading citrus platitudes for the billionth time and i will not be checking back in this thread.

While i am not sure this is really necessary i know for a fact that Longbow will do an excellent job as he has always done

Bandit did you ever play basil before you became an admin? You need three years service in the basil militia to be inducted to the monarchy based on the rules I just made up

Since when did near mid-night in Australia become Aussie Hours?

Well on topic I think this is a fine idea, but just give it a different title than 'King' of X.

Given how Londbowman was the host of the Badger server during that time in 2013 when we were DDoSed for a few weeks right after the site transition, and thus played a major part in ensuring this community survived the transition, should we perhaps rename Basil to Badger again? (Also Bagil is an awful name, please just go with Basil or Badger - both of these are fine, but Bagil is horrible. Apologies to anyone named Bagil.)

It's two different player bases, it's almost always been that way. Treating them differently makes some sense.

I accept this appointment and have decided that succession will be Agnatic-Cognatic Gavelkind.

I have a few plans for basil in which I will aim to promote the RP atmosphere it has there, the two servers are different and that isn't to say that is a bad thing, just that extra consideration is needed for each server.

I feel you have me confused with Crossbowman5, however I agree that Bagil is a terrible name and will now refer to it as the Kingdom of Basil, the reason it had been renamed to Bagil is that when it was opened to the hub, we had Brazilians misreading "Basil" as "Brasil", funnily enough.

I think this has been one of the best decisions recently. Admin on basil has always been a very different feel, ever since its creation, this has become more so with the influx of regular players and also opening it up to the hub. This makes dealing with situations very different in how sybil is dealt with. LBM has been a regular of basil for a long time now and has helped cultivate a great feel to the place. So much so that I think this title was pretty much his before it was bestowed on to him.

Basil is definitely a different place. Though I don't know if we can talk too much about its culture, its been on the hub for what, 2 months? Whatever community there was on Basil is eclipsed by the Hub. Still, I definitely respect the need to have a different attitude there.

Not so sure that it needs special rules or anything like that though. Rules should be consistent between servers. Basil has a lot more new, inexperienced players (last time I visited we got 5 straight accidental engine releases, wew), but we give a lot of leeway to new players on Sybil too... it's just that there's more of them on Basil.

I definitely would defer to anyone who has more experience on Basil, but I'm wary of giving anyone absolute authority when the community there is still very much in transformation after becoming a hub-driven server. AFAIK we're all new to the public server admin experience so I don't think anyone has a definitive handle on how things should be done there.

While we have a lot of new players we do still have a large number of regulars who are accustomed to the basil style of play

I like what LBM and Wyzack are doing with Basil but I personally just hate the atmosphere there. I can't really put my finger on why I dislike it but I just don't have any fun with the people over there.

That is just fine. Personally i think the arguments about which server are better and completely retarded. The servers offer different styles of play, and elitism because you think one is better than the other is dumb. Have the fun you want to have

It doesn't appear to have separate rules, it's just we are sometimes a little harsher on certain rules and more lax on others. Basically the push is towards a more RP feel than a gamey feel.

The hubbies and therefore new players has allowed a bit more shaping to take place, however it does mean a lot of new players who make mistakes. Generally I've seen other players actually help each other out, which is nice.
There are, as always, some salty players who kinda stain the OOC chat, but I like to think most people ignore them. Honestly there's very little we can do to curtail that or stop it. Can't really tell someone off for being annoyed. Though I guess it does make a sometimes unpleasant atmosphere.

Be sure to record it when you do warn them, otherwise they will just keep getting a first time warning over and over. It amazes me how many people can not seem to follow this one incredibly simple rule

For comparison, a lot of servers don't have as many admins or not as many players as Basil/Sybil do, so people who primarily use the hub use OOC out of necessity to communicate to end rounds rather than to fuck with people.

As someone with a history of playing on small hub servers and adminning small private servers, I can confirm what Zil mentioned up there. Typically that sort of thing is fine on hub servers, so it's important to help the players with the transition from small hub servers to a big server like Bagil (and Sybil to a degree, but it's not on the hub) rather than turn them away immediately with a ban.
