sounds like a phpbb issue so we either need to update or go complain on the phpbb forums

Its an issue with a modification I made to make the board support unicode/emoji characters, the board wasn't ready for it so some things still don't work properly, I need to dig through the code path for those bbcodes and figure out what is still not using multibyte aware functions.

I'd be surprised if the new phpBB versions still don't support unicode
