Regarding various maps on the wiki

Every location page on the wiki should have a specification of which map it is applying to, then we can further flesh out information about specific maps, and compare/contrast the differences of locations on the maps.
Alternatively we could have the location page, say for R&D as an example, show pictures of each different map's version, and then list the differences and similarities there.

If nothing else this would help make our wiki look cooler and more professional.

Good idea, they feel pretty pointless right now.

Time to steal some formatting from anime wikis.

Edit: yep, it's templates all the way down.
Personally, I like tabs. So the choices for me would be to either: tab the locations table, tab the pages individually or tab the template.
Tabbing either the table or pages themselves would require entire new pages, time consuming but ez.
Tabbing the template doesn't really work for me, because it's already really long compared to most articles, and if we want to include differences it will become even longer.

Tabbing the locations table sounds cheesy. So what do you think about tabbing the whole page?

I'm not entirely clear on what you mean, if you want to make some mockups of each, we could see which looks better and has a better flow to it.

I've been assuming (and it should be noted somewhere) that allocation images are from Box, seeing as how it's the de-facto default map.

Tabs for pages sounds good to me, but i don't really know how to set that up. I can take the pictures we need, though.
I'm wondering if we should do just Box and Meta or if the other rare maps are worth putting in as well.

Tabs would requite an extension installed to mediawiki, talk to MSO about it.

It might be better if we went more simple, and merely had them all on the same page physically, and could scroll down.
So just like a blurb of text and maybe some bulletpoints and something designating which map it is for, and then a picture on the rightside. Then a big cutoff and goes onto the next map, and you simply need to scroll down.

edit: one thing to note is that all tabs are downloaded and loaded into the browser at once. So don't go adding a bunch of large full res images in on each tab. (if its an image uploaded to the wiki, and the image tab specifies the size, wiki will automatically rescale it)

R8, h8 communic8.

Also: is there a way to link a tab specifically? Having links from non-standard stations going to the box tab is not optimal.

Close the <tabs> tag before the locations table. I'll try to find out how to link to a tab if it's possible.

I'd say that if linking to a tab is possible, having a second locations table would be superior to having a tabbed one, as it would save 1 click every metastation page visited.

Either that, or changing the template to have map tabs itself.
