maintainer complaint [oranges]

Warning: Clicking any of the links here/reading this complaint may result in star wars spoilers. I will put spoiler tags around them. Assume everything within a spoiler tag is an actual spoiler to star wars.
Byond account and character name: Irrelevant.
Maintainer: oranges/OptimumTact
Time and Server(Bagil or Sybil) incident occurred: Irrelevant, both.
Detailed summary: Reading the pull request linked here explains about everything:
Spoiler:
OptimumTact retitled the PR to spoil Star Wars: The Last Jedi which was really shitty because it announces it to every server. There's precedent for people getting gitbanned for this and I'm definitely server banning him once I get home. This goes against server rule one and using PRs to announce stuff to the server is already disallowed as far as I'm aware.

To add to this, he already has a previous ban for doing this sort of thing:

"Banned from OOC - Was told not to spoil Fallout 4 or face an OOC ban, spoiled Fallout 4 and will face an OOC ban"

He knows this is wrong (probably knew better than to do it beforehand) and did it anyways. This is not a server ban request. I've already decided he's getting banned when I get home. This is a github ban request.

if the server chooses to mirror PR names and gets spoiled, that's on the server

the codebase operates independantly

There was an incident a while back where someone was using github announcements to IC in OOC calling out antags.

No Goof. You don't get to hide behind that meme for everything.

Incorrect. He changed it to mirror the spoiler to #coderbus, an IRC channel that operates independently of the server.

Stop finding excuses to get mad at him because you're angry you got ruse cruised over cattebeest and had to actually punish one of your party members over them overreacting to said ruse cruise.

In that case, the person was actively playing on the server.

oranges doesn't ever play or connect. He was mirroring to the #coderbus channel. The servers being set up to pick it up was merely a coincidence. Blame your host and headmins instead of the codebase.

What kind of logic is that? It's not the headmins fault if someone decided to abuse a system they set up.

Please stop replying to the person who is banned from.the codebase trying to represent the codebase.

Goof please stop trying to act relevant. We set up OOC and various ingame systems yet we ban players for abusing them. Why should this be any different? oranges' intent was to spoil star wars to the 100+ players online. He was being a dick, plain and simple. Abusing this system has resulted in repo/server bans before and I see no reason why this time should be different. He needs to be held to the same standard as any other player or we'd be setting a bad precedent.

i remember some admin banned me for talking about the ending to fallout 4 in ooc with other players like a week or two after it came out, that was top-tier kekkery.

Nice strawman argument that can be turned around on you.

If he's being held to the standard of a player, then sure, ban him from the server. I've got no qualms with that. The fact of the matter is that despite what you may think, the repo is not the server, and the server is not the repo.

My point is is that this applies to his conduct as a codebase maintainer- Not only a player. Any other coder would likely be repo banned for that. It would be a huge double standard to let a maintainer get away with it just because he's a maintainer.

We can't do anything until kor comes back which is probably why oranges has been trolling constantly

Don't tell that to me, I have no say over the codebase

so he's abusing his powers to be a shithead in a way that people have been gitbanned for before?

at this point it's starting to sound like it doesn't matter if oranges is useful as a maintainer/etc. or not, why should he be exempt from punishment

and yes I know what arm said but the point still stands

arm stop replying to goof he's gitbanned and doesn't play his opinion is 100% irrelevant

Yea this simmered my soufflé - perfect alignment of events had me seeing the spoiler topic title, I tried to write it off as a weak joke - then I see it again today with Cyberboss's damage control title and so I knew the spoilers were real.

I'm not grabbing a pitchfork but it was astoundingly poor judgment.

No, the complaint is fine, the thread itself is a joke.

I feel like this time he has taken it a step too far.

You can go
>but it's just a film
as much as you want but it's a dick move regardless and this isn't your first instance of doing it. You can troll but being a twat about it is where you have to say stop.

The average coder would get no more than a verbal warning not to abuse the PR tracker for this even on the second or third (assuming lots of time in between) times. It's no different for oranges; he's been reprimanded but there is no reason for punitive action.

As far as I am aware there is no formal process for handling maintainer complaints and since the only true authority over maintainers is away, I will consider this matter resolved unless someone has serious outstanding concerns about the topic. I'll lock this thread in 24 hours.

Like I said in the ban appeal, I'm sorry, I will try my best not to do so in the future.

As long as oranges doesn't do it again, I'm happy. I feel like he knew better beforehand since he's received a ban for the exact same thing but I guess if he doesn't do it again then problem solved.

He does know better and I'll ban him if he does it again. It's been over two years since the last time though and he already got a three week server ban and an OOC permaban so I don't think anything further needs to happen at this time.
