Everyone welcome three new maintainers to the /tg/station github crew:
  • Phil235
  • Ergovisavi
  • Tkdrg

Additionally, we have created a new position of Art Director!
Art Directors are tasked with reviewing pull requests which change sprite .DMI files to ensure that any errors are caught, resolving sprite-related conflicts, and assisting other spriters in their endeavors.
Our first directors are:
  • WJohnston
  • Nienhaus

Our new maintainers have already done an exemplary job in killing off our PR backlog. :) Keep up the hard work, everyone!

I'll try not to accidentally delete everything or make a PR for system32. Again.

I like Tkdrg. He was very knowledgeable of the code when he was explaining the super matter shard stuff and other stuff to deadchat one day. Also, when over 50 virus culture bottles got stuck In a fridge, he used SDQL2 to fix it. It was magic. Coder rank is useful after all guys. I've also seen him do tons of big fixes (Phil too). I for one, welcome our new code overlords.

Aranclanos has been reinstated as maintainer after having previously been removed due to inactivity.

Dorsisdwarf has volunteered for and been appointed as Issue Manager. While this is technically a Maintainer-rank position due to necessity, he is tasked with ensuring that issues are properly tagged, duplicate issues are closed, and other similar clerical tasks.

Please use the test pr feature instead of merging grossly unpopular shit, if you're not going to simply close them.

Joan aka Anonus aka ChangelingRain has been added as maintainer.
AnturK has been added as maintainer.

KorPhaeron has been added as Design Lead. His role will be to give a consistent design vision to the project's development.

Something about the notion of standardizing design fills me with concern reguardless of who has such a title.

I'm just gonna go stand over here by the wizard spell list and make sure Kor doesn't meme it up more.

Eh, stuff having to get the designer's approval just adds more bureaucracy onto already overhead-heavy pull requests.

I have a feeling that this will only come into play for a small percentage of more-or-less randomly selected pull requests. And the amount of input will be in the style of "I see you changed the number of TK that traitors get from 20 to 30. It should be 25." (Meaning ultimately inconsequential decisions that the pull request author will be forced to implement, only resulting in them wasting more of their time for no benefit.).

I obviously like Kor, so please don't take any of this as criticism of you personally, it's a criticism of the position.

A consistent remark in regards to the game is how individuals each pull the game in their own direction, with no clear over-arcing design oversight. While maintainers focus on code quality and design, the design lead focuses on the overall gameplay impact of each PR.
The prevailing maintainer philosophy recently in regards to touchy balance/content PRs has been "I ain't goin' near that", so they just end up being open until they get stale and are closed 3 weeks later or YOLOmerged while nobody's looking. These situation's are the design lead's purview, as well as planning an outline for future content and reviewing old updates that undermine critical themes such as 'Paranoia' or overall station lethality level.

I have faith in Kor's potential only in this role, given his wisdom, insight and veterancy.
