Too many fucking antagonist categories and they're not helpful sorry for swearing

I'm making a new UI and I realized we have way too many categories for antagonists, and they don't actually help admins find what they're looking for. We have a chance to fix that. Mind devising a new categorization for the various antagonists of the game? By faction, by gameplay purpose (solo antags vs conversion etc), I don't care. Anything is better than this!

preliminary thoughts: I'm liking the idea of sandwiching clownops and nuke ops, traitors and brothers. Hell, they could all fall under the syndicate.

How many categories are you looking for? Some things don't fall neatly into a category with other antags and could lead to even more difficulty.

What about this?
Solo (Traitor, Wizard, Heretic, Ninja, Ling)
Team (BBs, Nuke/Clown Ops, Heretic, Revolution)
Fauna/Midround (Revenant, Blob, Xeno, Dragon, Sentient Disease, Malf)
Other

I'm kinda iffy on that though since even though Malf only rolls midround now, it could be thought of as a team antag and doesn't fit into Fauna like Xenos could.

Just something that would help admins pick up on what category an antag is in and not listing every antag as a category

I think it can be a drop down to sort it by faction or gameplay, but I think the nature of the antagonist would go something like this…

Infiltration (Traitor, Brother, Malf AI, Changeling, Space Ninja)
Worship/Convert (Revolutionary, Cultists, Heretics)
Assault (Nuke Ops, Clown Ops, Battlecruser, maybe ert? whatnot)
Biohazard (Sentient Disease, Blob, Biohazards (duh))
Aliens (Abductors, Aliens, Fauna)
Magic (Revenant, Wizard, Sentient Creature, Blood Demon, Dragon, whatnot)
and Admins for all of the custom roles that are laying around, like disabled roles.

It’s equal and the categories clearly describe their purpose.

I think heretics should be moved from convert so things aren’t crazy stupid, and should possibly go to infiltration, but I’m also considering the fact that heretics take people and make them alive, so it’s kinda like convert but no throwing objectives at them

I def think the expected crew interactions are the way to group them. I would go for...

Crewmember Infiltrator (Solo/Small Team): Traitor, BB, Changeling, Heretic
Crewmember Conversion: Revolutionary, Cultist, Gang :)
Outside Solo: Space Ninja, Revenant, Blood Demon, Space Dragon, Abductors, etc.
Outsider Assault: Nuke Ops, Clown Ops, Xenomorphs, Kudzu Mobs, Battlecruiser, Pirates, etc.
Low-Impact: Sentient Disease, Obsessed, etc.
Blob: Blob :)
Wizard: Wizard, Apprentices. Kind of impossible not to make these their own category with how weird they are.

Admin-Only: ERT/Intern, Chrono, etc.

If this is for a revamped/more structured traitor panel:

Categories could be:
  • Custom
  • Invader (nuke/clown/solo/wizard/apprentice)
  • Solo (Traitor/Heretic/Obsessed)
  • Solo Midround (Blob/Ninja/Sentient Disease)
  • Team (cult/rev/spider/BB/Abductor/Xenomorph/Dragon)
  • Centcomm
  • Ghostrole
with subcategories for different, but related team antags like space dragon and carps or revhead/revolutionary/enemy

I still think biohazard should be paired with blob, sentient, and whatnot. However this is better than mine (I have terrible ideas). Not sure with xenos being compared with a assault, or abductors being a “solo” crew, but I think this is the best.

TraitorPanel/AntagPanel (Preferring TraitorPanel as it stands out more as a name and is recognized by more of the UI/admin team)

Oh geez, I just realized I don't use those buttons to make antags or really make antags all that often.

Does your UI include a search filter? I'm not sure nesting them in categories is as useful as a search filter

would be useful if the UI also gave info about the antag when you mouse over because I remember getting fallen changeling from an admin event and nobody knew what that was. (Its just a changeling without any powers that got drained by another, antag permissions essentially.)
