Water Physics:Is it possible?

Would it be possible to make a gas called water, which would cause the player to suffocate, put out any flame, and short circuit any cyborg with their cover open?
SS13 is at atmos sim, is water something that can be simulated in that system? Even if it's a hack job.

Your atmosians were so preoccupied with whether or not they could, they didn’t stop to think if they should.

There are servers that do have functional water, yes.

There have also been servers (long dead now except for like Oshan on Goon) that were based around the station actually being underwater as well as one that based around an underwater submarine. Definitely some my most memorable experiences.

I was thinking about this the other week. An underwater station is probably beyond the scope of SS13, as incredibly cool as it would be.

Gas sim is ALMOST the same as fluid sim, but with some differences (gas can flow equally up/down, liquid only goes down, etc)
It's totally doable, but it takes a complexity cost in terms of maintaining it, and my doc on atmos is already like 8k words. It's not "could we do it" but more "could we maintain it well"
Similar story to the old smoke stuff skyrat did.

This is really the only underwater map in use at this point (Besides a new more deadly one: https://wiki.ss13.co/Nadir). Its definitely within scope and able to be checked out if you choose to make the venture to Goon. You may come back with some ideas.

They do include some details on how they made it work without being a complete lagfest as well, some POC's, and you could look deeper than that as well.

Its one of my favorite in-rotation server maps to play on.

To be clear without significantly clearer and just as fast code any sort of fluid simulation would be quite a hard sell.

Tell me about that.

It uh, it looked a LOT like atmos code, but worse because it was trying to be modular. Even tied into the atmos subsystem if I recall, tho I could be wrong about that don't want to slander anyone.

I have a surviving copy of the Yonaguni Europastation server repo, beside Rohesie and other active staff who squirrelled it away to never see the light of day. Which is Minecraft Classic levels of water fill-in hilarity, accomodating that the exoplanet turfs dictate a very aggressive creation rate of water-tiles from sourceblock (which the metadata is passed along to), compared to creating water in a safe enviroment.
