Good Things To Port

Ok I was just going to make a topic about https://github.com/d3athrow/vgstation13/pull/4463 because it's great and I didn't want to forget about it later, but it occurred to me that we didn't have a thread like this and it could be useful.

Post and discuss things from other codebases that would be good to port to /tg/station code.

Baymed...ical's Runtime mechanics.

More specifically, the CMO's cat, Runtime. On Bay, you can pick her up (by click-dragging to you) and wear her as a hat, or put her on tables where she'll turn from an item into a mob in a few seconds (think drones).

/vg/ has a lazarus belt for miners as a point reward, full of pokeball-style things that can contain lazarus-injected creatures. Say you lazarus a basilisk. You take a LazaBall® out of your LazaBelt® and use it on the basilisk, and it's sucked inside, ready to be deployed when the ball is next used or thrown.

Trying to use lazarus as it currently exists on /tg/ is insufferable, this would be a nice quality of life thing.

Someone port bay shower curtains!! I think it would be fantastic if they worked kind of like lockers in the sense that they hide whats in that tile if they are closed! I would love to stumble upon a shower and pull the curtain back to reveal tons of dead bodies! I think they would be cool to add to our showers, because what shower doesn't have curtains?

You can have crossbows without being instacrit. Port doesn't mean 1:1 port. Though at this point we seriously don't need more guns.

I would like to rename plasma, but I wouldn't want to just take bay's name for it.

Why not just go for something extreme for a alternative plasma. So instead SS13 is just barely orbiting a black hole, and the only way to harvest plasma/whatever is with expensive, and small, drones that carefully go out and scoop up plasma.

Would also possibly explain why everyone on SS13 is insane.

Fax machines aren't supposed to be for communication between players. They're supposed to function as a way to contact CentCom without power or something, so still pointless.

Mechanics from vg would be radical, but since our rounds only last as long as peoples source of valids upgrading the station and making useful machines is kind of a moot point.

We don't have a hideous pink overlay when wearing science glasses (or green with mesons/NVGs), so only the luminol itself would--
Who are we kidding, this is amazing, port post-haste.

Maybe tie the science goggle luminol functionality to sunglasses and HUDsunglasses (plus variants; e.g. the HoS's eyepatch and GARs)? And can you scan a luminol reaction for DNA? Syndicate soap should also not leave anything for the luminol to work on (it'd increase its usage, at least).

TBH I like the walls. Anything that stops the station from looking like a 32*32 tileset is a big + in my eyes.

Also resprite floor tiles/plating/girders plz. Maybe I should do that, but I suck at tilesets :(

Well since we're all ranting about walls now, if we were going to switch them I'd rather them be a proper 3/4th view instead of a top down. Like pic related (extending them up further like in the pic is optional and probably not preferable, we'd need camera rotation which has some bugs with it still)

Those Atlas walls are nicer than what we have now imo but yeah there's something off.

They're too eye-catching, there's too much going on for what is literally just a slab of metal designed to be scenery for the action, not the action itself.

On the topic of 3 quarter view, we have a lot of perspective weirdness and it'd all really need to be cleaned up.

Wouldn't that require something silly like EMPing a laz injector first. Unless you could somehow add that to the ball's functionality. That could be neat.

Increased usability and a better ui are always good additions. Of course if we don't want that information displayed, that's another thing, but if we're going to give crew moniter computers access to locations, it would be nice to give a little map to make those locations clearer.
