[Nope.Wav] - Spamming events to end productive round

by Spirono
Byond account and character name: Spyro Zeppeli, Serena Blaine
Admin: Nope.Wav
Time and Server(Bagil or Sybil) incident occurred: 19:00 GMT, Terry
ROUND ID HERE: 87924
Detailed summary: Round was going fine and long. Then Slaughter Demon spawned, I was presumably admin gibbed after killing demon and then events started being spammed. Antags were spammed, then the station was nuked. Nobody was happy with it, as the round was going very smoothly and there was stuff happening across the station.

If you need any more info, feel free to ask

Are you sure that 87938 is the correct round ID? 87924 appears to have the things you talked about. Anyway I'd post some logs but I have to head out in a few minutes. I'll post them when I return if nobody else does.

Alright I did a little digging.

First off, the round was almost five and a half hours long: https://atlantaned.space/statbus/round.php?round=87924
[2018-05-14 12:58:10.435] Starting up round ID 87924.

And only one traitor is created:
[2018-05-14 13:01:42.051] GAME: Booktower (ckey) has been selected as a traitor

Nope.wav logs in about four hours in:
[2018-05-14 17:57:51.499] ACCESS: Login: Nope.wav from -censored- || BYOND v512

Gets the lay of the land:

[2018-05-14 17:58:59.245] ADMIN: DSAY: Nope.wav/(John Yeast) : howdy there (108,159,2)

Spams a few buttons to move things along:

And then Spyro gets gibbed for reasons I can't discern. Something about a friendly slaughter demon?:

Am I correct in reading that this was a nearly 5 and a half hour round?

I agree that Terry tends to have and enjoy longer rounds, but at some point both for server stability and the sake of dead players rounds need to end. When Terry first started I would typically start activating ends to begin ending the round near the 2 hour mark, start acting more heavy handed around 3, and once it hit four I would occasionally ask on the other servers for others to come help me. If the only active players are doing xenobiology, mining, or space exploration then the round needs to start wrapping up. Too often I would see someone recalling the shuttle just because they finally got changeling and wanted to enjoy it and that's selfish.

Looking through the logs of the mentioned round he clearly triggered more events than there were ghosts to fill. Some of the heavy spam seems to be because players were actively rejecting the ghost roles being offered.

The MASS MASS Hallucination seems a bit much, and slaughter demon is weak since it doesn't give a good way to call the shuttle, but rounds need to end so players don't get bored and leave the server when they die.

If you want this to be a successful complaint focus on whatever happened with the gibbing as Ned mentioned above.

I was on at this round and I saw all the button spam and the first thing that went on in my mind was "Jesus Christ nope". If you want to end the round there's more subtle ways than hitting 40 times on buttons.
I just closed my window in the middle of it. I probably should've said something about it.

Gibbing a player for killing an admin spawned antag is pretty bad though.

I don't think we're going to do ourselves any favors by denying that Terry has a different dynamic than other servers. The rounds are going to be ridiculously long and people don't get as antsy when the rounds go on long, so there often isn't a need to destroy them like this since that's what we've come to accept on Terry.

Still, I cannot pass judgement on each one of the servers differently until we come to the agreement that a different standard is required for Terry. I think a policy thread is required for that.

In any event, it historically acceptable to spawn events to end the round, but not so much acceptable to spam events in order to end a round (especially on Terry). It would be much better to offer up ghost roles or auxiliary crew roles (such as engineers that are sent to the station) if people are out of the round. You can do something like just an alien infestation or meteors if you feel the round has gone on particularly long and people want it to end.

However, that doesn't answer the question of why they were gibbed. I'm going to let nope post for that since this doesn't look too good.

What he did wrong was directly gibbing and not calling the shuttle.

I originally put the wrong ID in. Fixed it shortly after, sorry for confusion.

As an additional note, the slaughter demon attacked the captain of the ship not long before I killed it.

I was in this round and for reference here is the roundend report:

Image

It was finally ended with spawning multiple Nar-Sies and detonating the nuke.
While it was kind of fun for a while and I love having random antags spawn late in the round.
I do agree that it felt a bit over the top in the end and just a means to end the round prematurely.

Also note that there were only about 12 players online here, simply spawning a few non super-dangerous antags from the few ghosts around would probably have been enough to end the round in itself without going overboard like this.

After doing my own research into the round game logs, I find the admin's behavior to be grossly out of touch with the server community.
Gets the lay of the land:
[2018-05-14 17:58:54.840] ADMIN: Nope.wav/(John Yeast) checked antagonists.
[2018-05-14 17:58:59.245] ADMIN: DSAY: Nope.wav/(John Yeast) : howdy there (108,159,2)

Spams a few buttons to move things along:
[2018-05-14 17:59:07.567] ADMIN: Nope.wav/(John Yeast) has triggered an event. (Abductors)
[2018-05-14 17:59:08.160] ADMIN: Nope.wav/(John Yeast) has triggered an event. (Spawn Slaughter Demon)
[2018-05-14 18:00:58.702] ADMIN: Nope.wav/(John Yeast) has triggered an event. (Alien Infestation)

[2018-05-14 18:01:27.749] ADMIN: Nope.wav/(John Yeast) has triggered an event. (Spawn Nightmare)
They spent a whole minute observing a long round, and decided based upon what observation they could only make in that short span of time (antagonists, round duration, crew) that it was time to end the round in chaos and subsequently:

Literally torture the players who have endured such a round.

There is no respect, it's just causing chaos from a position of privilege. I've done my own research into the round as I stated and the dialog between the admin and the players is also lacking. After gibbing the player they admin simply justified their action as you weren't playing along.

This wasn't the end of the event spam either, it goes on making more antags and more events. I'm honestly surprised there wasn't three dozen looping immovable rods either, if you made an assumption based only on how often events were being spammed in with no cohesion.

While I agree with Citrus here:
CitrusGender wrote:I don't think we're going to do ourselves any favors by denying that Terry has a different dynamic than other servers. I don't believe the admin's behavior is acceptable on any server, this was just an admin mashing buttons for their own amusement, nothing that transpired was in the interest of the players or benefit of the round.

While Terry is a budding server cultivating a new community, it will never be a low-pop admin-lite server where we can go and do whatever we want without fear of repercussion.

I agree, while ending the round was appropriate, the way they chose to do so (shit on the players until they run home) was probbably not.
There are so many complex tools we have as admins that its saddening that "spawn ALL THE ANTAGS time for EVERYONE HALLUCINATES FOREVER also i nuke you" is all that you could come up with to bring a somewhat over-extended round to a close

Oh, and gibbing someone for killing a fucking slaughter demon is plain and simple admin abuse, independent of the rest.

I don't have anything against nope.wav, but it would disappoint me to see admins getting away with stuff players would get banned for. If anything, admins should be held to higher standards, not less.
Random murders are not acceptable nor is the killing of other players for poor or little reasoning such as ‘My character is insane’. Each unjustified kill is normally met with one 24 ban.
Don't be a hypocrite. If you're doing something you'd normally ban someone for doing, you're breaking this.

at most for a random non antag murder with no previous history we'd only give a 1 day ban so if you're suggesting that at most we would deadmin them for 1 day?

Or just a dayban. When Pax randomly messed up a player in response to a prayer its what I gave him.

More admin complaints should result in minor punishments like a ban instead of having to pick between "yeah dont do it again" and "okay you're gone forever"

1/2 day per person online at the time the round was ended for the mass hallucination + event spam
+ 1 day for the gib

total time 10 days, knock off 3 days for being honest in the complaint

7 days, a weeks ban

Yeah I can get behind that. I'm not really one for making an arbitrary system of measurement though so I think a weekban is good enough to get the message across that we will not accept rounds being ruined by admins.

The complaint is accepted and Nope will be put on leave from the server for 7 days starting now (He will still have his discord and forum rank.) We consider this to be pretty lenient considering he is a trial.

Terry is a strange place where you can admin and have no admins on for a long time and you have to learn what is correct from players who make complaints about you (since there are rarely admins on for oversight)

Consider this a final warning, any further misconduct will result in their rank being removed.
