Looking for PVMers of all experience levels to test bosses and mobs with varying levels of equipment within the next few months.


Bosses will be restricted to mining based weaponary except in large teams. This is due to the huge health pool bosses generally have.

You will get first chances and opportunity to test the latest bosses and content, and potentially learn the boss mechanics in it's early stages.
I'll be requesting a blackout on strategies, content, and general disclosure during the test period if you are chosen.

Bosses and mobs - food for thought.

What makes a good mob or AI?

It needs to challenge the player and think, but must also be predictable and beatable.

Players shouldn't be punished for remembering and making the right choice, and they certainly shouldn't be forced to fight a boss that really they have no realistic chance of beating.

A common and boring problem with AI is their lack of human aspects. Too many games have mobs that just simply charge the player so players are overwhelmed. This is artificial difficulty at it's finest.

Good AI should be able to make choices between assaulting a player and holding their position.


Now onto skills, as combat is unequal and asymmetric.

Mechanics should be plain and simple to understand.

Do X when AI does Y or Z will happen.
Never too many mechanics. One at maximum.

For harder monsters or upper skill ones, certain passive or active mechanics can be employed. Especially if the fight is going to last an intermediate duration.
These mechanics should avoid having a do X or Y mechanic because juggling these actions become a stress rather than enjoyment.

For all bosses, they must be solvable under TAS perfect conditions. Adding in specific mechanics and abilities just to counter and prevent solo kills is cheesy and unrewarding.

Good boss or mob is something that absolutely curb stomps you the first couple times you fight it but after fighting it enough times you perfect it no problem. Enemies like the Goliath or the megafauna do this.

Movement is done each tick right? For all mobs? How about making them hesitate, sometimes sidestep for added immersion? Some kind of mutated tree that moves when not looked at? You can't escape without being followed.

Idea: salt saturated water, has a thin layer of ice above but can be smashed to make a hole to fish. Ice Carp that spawns and can move only on the frozen over water, looks like a shadow under the the ice, when approached smashes a hole and becomes a regular space carp but whiter/lighter and named Ice Carp? People running too fast/blindly ahead on the snowed on ice (so no need for the ice sliding mechanic) may be ambushed by the carps?

Frost-crusted Snow Mite that has a lot of armor the first few hits, then the ice melts/cracks and falls?
Boss: a very frozen-over snowmite that saps your body temperature?
If you reach a severely cold state it stuns. Ancient Snowmite? Or each 3-5 instances of damage it sends out a pulse of coldness? Possible counterplay by throwing items at it.
Possibly drops coldproofing extract, or a long-lasting leoporazine-type chem?

Random event: heat-seeking swarm: "sensors indicate a large mass of biologicals coming towards the base/station/compound." lots of insectoid simple mobs with a way point (if possible) on the station, a swarm woken by activity, and in search of heat.
Are AI waypoints possible? Or too process intensive?

group bosses (extremely difficult to solo even in pimped out, fully kitted equipment)

beastmaster
extreme healthpool, constantly summoning overwhelming force

royal frost family
each family member is a boss of their own
fight them all at once
King - slow high damage sword master
Queen - slow scepter based stun/weaken/crowd control.
jack the sucessor - fast, low damage melee attacks
ten the heir - fast, disarm and slow crowd control
ace the spymaster - reduces damage dealt to rest of royal family. protects weakest family member unless distracted.

yuki onna
bullet hell.

royal frost legion
multiple enemies boss (several minibosses)

giant worm/mole
bulky, large burrowing boss.

You need to be more responsible and mature, in addition to improving and strengtheningyour own personal integrity.

As of current, you will not be able to pass any tests that signify trustworthiness, integrity, or accountability.

Will be pushing for full scale development August, that is two days.

First objective is terrain generation and zlevel transition. Once this is working I'll be able to make the maps based on a combination of terrain generation and ruin spawning to create a randomised appearance every time.

initially this will be with metastation, but I'll move it onto my own map soon after.

once initial terrain generation code is through, I'm going to push for the first one or two bosses. and maybe a drop.


I will make the toolbox maul a reality.

I have LeoZ working on terrain and zlevel generation however some circumstances have affected him. I'm pushing to restart progress with this month and work through the major steps month by month.

There will be job postings. I originally wanted Joan to work on the boss however they seem to be disinterested and will not help.
I will search for more diligent workers to assist in this project.

A ban will not halt progress.

I have the code for MultiZ now.

I have the code for Zlevel transition.

I will be mapping now.

Progress begins, whenever I choose to map.

unfortunately, the map is reset. I will start afresh. open to new ideas. I could technically try to port it. but it will be a major pain in the ass.

I have tried to get the female to lifeweb female sprite converter, but remie has not finished it and doesn't want to release unfinished projects.

Looking for cutscene/sequence specialists, similar to ratvar vs narsie sequence. Paid job.

Look out for code conversion job postings in future. Must be able to butcher and sew together code.

the aim is to make something playable and fun even without antags. I want to be able to put this on extended and still have things for everyone to do.

it's the serious design flaw and the elephant in the room in ss13; having fun without antags or with dormant antags.

in some way the current tgstation has forgotten how to have fun without being an antag.
aside from the pseudo-combat of lavalnd, there is little incentive to play roles. there is little roleplay. everyone is self serving.

there will be two side objectives. both fairly difficult or atleast takes a long time to do. both will have different affects on the round.

I will try to avoid the item bloat that lavaland has. the items you get should be relevant instead of an outlet for misfit items. bosses will contain relevant loot, and will be as challenging as the baymedical system.
