We Captain Now: Heads of staff become lizards. AI spawns with Asimov but with the word "Human" replaced by "Lizard"
Metabreak Round: Captain and some of the heads of staff are traitors.
Anti-Revs: Revolutionaries must either convert or murder the entire non-head crew. Non-converted crew must murder the heads of staff.
Mirror Universe: Everyone spawns with goatees and is an antag with the objective "Stay alive until the end"

to be honest the actual good idea is to not make the game unplayable for 24 hours

We wanted to try to have a way to make April fools playable codewise I don’t see how indefinite shutting down of servers (which literally makes the game unplayable) is ok.

In hindsight it was only 2 hours so whatevs but I don’t blame individuals for being upset at the time.

The core point of april fools is to forcefully smash everyone over the head with the idea that SS13 is not to be taken seriously. The pursuit of greentext, valids and MY FUN dominates 364 days of the year. Today is a reminder that SS13 is absolutely chaotic and retarded and no one is entitled to anything.

The patronizing and unnecessary nature of the announcements is what aggravated people, not the downtime, however minor it was. Then again, I dread AFD every year anyway so I always get grumpy with it

You assign yourself far too much value. The game is 99% of the time better off with natural, emergent storylines that rely on players interacting with each other and having fun their own ways rather than getting railroaded into whatever lame buttons some bored jaded admin decides to hammer

April Fool's Day should be left with low rules and a higher tolerance for players playing pranks on each other, not admins pressing the meteor button 15 times

I mean, there was one meteors event in the dozen or so rounds I managed.
