Your side of the story: I was spray painting some people in the face while doing spray can art in one of the halls and a guy called Wally Walnut comes up to me and two other people called Quir-Ky Lizard and Lizard-Man and wordlessly attempts to kill all of us while using a flash. I have no idea why he was trying to kill us and I say he's a headrev over radio because A. he is acting like an antagonist, attacking people who had no business getting attacked from an escalation/valids pov (ie the random lizardpeople I was chilling with) and B. he has a flash. I disarm his flash and spam use it to burn it out and he hardcrits me and tries to kill me while I'm being taken to medical/healed, while also attacking the aforementioned other two people. Because of this, after the other people crit him who he was continually fighting while I was getting revived, I take him to dorms, put him in the witch costume and prepare to do eye removal surgery on him but decide it isn't worth the effort midway through and leave the area.
Why you think you should be unbanned: This was valid escalation and the person attacking us, Wally Walnut, was the only person acting questionable/potentially rule breaking by attacking random people and then ban baiting. I checked the logs because I completely forgot this round by the time I realized I was banned and they confirm that he was definitely trying to flash me (which makes my claim that he's a rev 100% valid and would be grounds alone for me to just kill him), that he attacked the two lizards I was with for no reason and that I wasn't even the one who crit him as the ban reason suggests. I'm not sure why my note history was brought up because I'm 99% sure it's been untouched for over 6 months, not that I can check.

I have no idea why he was trying to kill us and I say he's a headrev over radio because A. he is acting like an antagonist, attacking people who had no business getting attacked from an escalation/valids pov (ie the random lizardpeople I was chilling with) and B. he has a flash.

You started it by spray painting them. Flash is not antag gear.

You are correct that it is from a pretty long ago, however, your activity since that ban has been near zero as far as I can tell. As such, I can't be certain your low activity is the only reason you haven't caught more bans since then. If you actually play the game without getting into trouble, you'll be on less thin ice.

Since the ban reason is only half correct, I'll be reducing the ban duration to a week and editing the note to:

Banned from the server for 1 week - As non-antagonist assistant, randomly spray painted a crewmember, then, when the crewmember retaliated, called them a rev for using a flash. Don't bait people into attacking you to get them lynched.

Hi since I'm the person involved, Wally, I figured I'd add a few details relevant to that.

You mentioned the two other lizards that I also randomly started attacking that you were with. Due to their names (they both had the word Lizard in their name) and the fact that they were both spray painted (I think the same green colour but I could be wrong here?) I consistently mixed the two of them up during the fight, which resulted in both of them being dragged into the fight. This was due to the other lizard, Lizard Man, coming to your rescue while I was trying to beat you up for spraying me purple, who was my intended target for helping you. I also realized this because Quirky kept mentioning how I attacked him randomly, which prompted me to scroll up and double check the logs while the round was still ongoing. It's also why I didn't ahelp either of the lizards or include them in my ahelp for the torture because as far as I thought, they were just defending their buddy and got caught up in a really confusing scenario, so I didn't assume bad faith on their part, as they genuinely had reason to believe I was an antag. I even apologized to them ingame later and explained what happened and they told me where to find my ID.

Anyway, I don't think you were also wearing shades, but the logs Strider show that I /did/ get a flash in on you first. Only I didn't, because your back was turned. So you weren't stunned. But my issue is that not only did you claim I was a rev for trying to fuck you up with a flash, but that you did so after the clear failure to convert you despite flashes working from behind with revs. You've played quite a long time, by your own admission, so I assume you knew with absolute certainty that at the very least I'm not a rev head. The three possibilities here are: You didn't notice, you did notice but chose to ignore it, or you didn't know this feature. I assumed you went with you did notice but chose to ignore it, thus my ahelping. The point being that if you had been paying attention, you would've had absolute confirmation that I wasn't a rev head.

I also wasn't mad about the spray painting. I was mad at you making fake rev head calls over a flash when it was just very likely that I was attacking you over the spray paint, then starting another fight with me upon being healed and "RRing" me (I say RRing because I was stuck there for a long ass time) when you were brought to medbay. Not by me, mind you, as someone jumped in too soon to stop that, but you still weren't round removed like you almost did to me.

My personal opinion is the accusation isn't totally beyond the realm of possibility, but that your argument for this falls apart when you stop to consider that instead of killing me, a "confirmed" rev head in your mind, you opt for some creepy dorms 4 fetish torture session and don't make any attempt to get security involved to check with mindshields. You just took advantage of the lizard's confusion to drag them into your fight, and then tried to do that the same with more people by calling me a rev head. I'm too lazy to log dive, but I'd wager you proceeded to play your shift normally despite the fact you were so sure that it was revs.

The whole purpose of appeals is to give the player another chance to put their case forward and the admin a chance to re-assess their decision in light of that information. We regularly tell the admin team to come to appeals with an open mind and fresh perspective. Sometimes the outcome will be different as a result.

Striders listened to your appeal and decided on a new outcome based on that information. That's the appeal process working as intended and we can all be thankful for it.

Your last 4 key notes on your record were all bans, including one for ban baiting. And activity-wise, you've put in about 60 living hours of playtime since your last week ban.

So to address the point on how this ended up being a perma? I think the choice to perma you based on what Striders' investigation dug up was harsh but not unjustifiable.

There's some pretty thin the ice you're on when it comes to general shittery and below-standard behaviour. Given enough playtime without incident there'll be less room or reason to ban and you've obviously been working on it, but the fact of the matter is that your history is trash and it will require effort to overcome that. If you take away anything from this appeal, it should probably be that.

Second point on admin metafriending? Having looked into the ahelps and looking into this appeal, I don't think there's any merit in your claims they're showing favouritism to their friends. Nothing out of the ordinary and the matter got cleaned up in the end.
