Pretty much this. Nations are a must-have because as much as we may wish otherwise, without solid and strictly defined borders between different groups of people the only thing that will happen is a sliding scale from tensions, to societal breakdown, to finally ethnic cleansings as the entirety of Africa shows, and former Yuguslav in the balkans.

As nice as a world without borders must sound to some, there is a very good reason why we have them. Aside from historical reasons they are absolutely vital to keeping stability, and any project that tries to eliminate borders has led to instability and tensions, like the EU.
Nations, nationalism and borders are a good thing because different cultures under the same country never works out. Especially in democracies, as whichever culture is more numerous will be able to force the others to change through laws and the political system. Coincidentally, this is why so many people are upset and worried about the mass immigration into Europe

As for the mercs. Italy tried that in its city state phase. And that is pretty much exactly how it went, they just hired eachothers mercs and that was the war.

Neo-liberal capitalism is a huge problem, definitely, and should be removed.

But I find it unlikely that we will see capitalism itself removed any time soon. Too many people have too big an interest in keeping it in place, and there is not yet a good alternative that isn't better served by being integrated into capitalism

Communism is really bad and responsible for some of the worst genocides in history.

Call me optimistic but I think communism might (MIGHT) work if it was applied like old man Marx wanted: to well-developed first world countries that can take care of themselves.

A lot of the reason why communism failed so much was because it was both coupled with terrible dictatorial leaders and was done in countries that couldn't take care of themselves. If it was done i say, the US, a country that's about as independent as you can get, it'd probably world a lot better and not end with millions starving like in Russia.

Capitalism is still a better system though.

Actually, Russia was self-sustaining as far as food went. The famine happened because the feudal lords-turned-capitalists in the most fertile farming regions decided that they'd rather burn their fields than turn them over to commies. And their neighbour's fields too because they had to put down an example of fuck the commies
They convinced the peasantry that it was for the best too, then ran out to other countries. And then the pissed off communist party decided that these peasants who used to work the fields would be the last to get any of the scarce food, since they helped burn the place down

Unpleasant situation overall

Oh, they also salted the fields after burning them and killed all the cattle.
Then they cut open the cattle and filled the carcasses with manure so they would be inedible

You could argue that democracy protects against such murderous tyranny.
