its true the fact that jobs being automated creates jobs, but not at the rate we need them to and that's completely missing the fact that those are usually jobs that are white collar, highly specialised and highly educated.

the problem right now with your technology singularity is that our current education system is not suited for the constant changing workplace. if we do not find a solution to this problem we're going to have to stay in constant higher education just to keep specialising more and more as automation takes over virtually every industry bar the very, very niche.

a universal income would solve some of these problems but even that still has its faults. however if smarter, and more experienced people are telling me that universal income is a good first step to tackling the problem of automation then im going to listen to them

I don't really care if someone makes 10x 20x 30x of what your average middle class worker makes, it's life that those who are more skilled/try harder should make more money. Nobody is arguing for communism but wealth inequality in it's current state is ridiculous, the 1% are quite literally off the scale in how much they make compared to the rest of us, in the 70s we had probably the most equal society we ever had in modern human history, but right now? we are regressing back to 1910 and 1920's level of inequality.

I think wealth redistribution is a bad idea because it opens the door to further problems down the line. Forgetting for the moment that the super-rich will just say "no" and move somewhere else where your laws don't apply...
Once you accept that it's okay to tread all over somebody's right to property and ownership, any line you set will be entirely arbitrary and other people will point that out and ask why you should stop there. Why stop at at the 1%'s wealth? Why not the 10%? Or the 25% or the 50%?

Once you say that it is okay to take someone else's property - you saying it's not okay to take your property is gonna sound damn hypocritical.
And even if you did accept it's okay, not everyone is going to share that philosophy, what will happen to them? Will they be imprisoned in gulag with the rest of the bourgeois? Perhaps rounded up and hung until dead?
Will you say that okay you're not gonna take their property? If you do that, then people will ask why not? You were perfectly fine when it was the 1%.

And more to the point, who decides whose wealth gets redistributed and who will get what? How can you ensure it will be "fair"? How do you define "fairness"? Total egalitarianism with everyone getting the same amount? What about those with disabilities or other such qualifiers that raise their cost of living? How do you intend to placate those people who will get less than their peers? How will you prevent corruption?


To summarise my point, it would be a total logistical, ethical, legal and economical nightmare

Forcibly taking wealth and redistributing it is basically communism and that doesn't work and I'm not suggesting it should happen. At the minute most governments don't see wealth inequality as an issue, you will find no mention of the subject by most governments because to them it's almost a non-issue. Instead of working out how to reduce the massive gap that is growing rapidly we are just choosing to ignore it completely. I don't really do much research into economics but I know Danny Dorling has a good few books about steps and measures we can take to reduce wealth inequality that don't involve starting a communist revolution.
